What I find funny is that I hope to vote for the most conservative candidate for POTUS in 2012 who I hope will be Sarah Palin.
But when she makes a pragmatic pick like Fiorina or Queeg we call it astute.
I think she should endorse in primaries people like herself...the most conservative.
That she has not a few times bothers me and I feel compelled to comment on it.
Nor do I I like this “girl power” notion though arguably conservative women would win a cajone weighing contest with most GOP men these days...I am just so over fembotism
The time for pragmatism is in the general like when we all held our nose and voted for her running mate in 2008, till then I support the most conservative.
Given how Christie has done in Jersey I am not convinced righties can’t win anywhere if they stick to their guns.
Somehow, this thread has gone from Iowa to the border (again) AND THEN BACK TO THE SENATE RACE IN CA. There are plenty of threads for that.
The fence (wall) works in that it stops a lot of the illegal aliens from entering. Yes, they find other ways -— the fence extends into the ocean in San Diego but they try go around it too.
I’m all for sending 20,000, 50,000 or how even many troops to the Mexican border and keeping them there until the completion of the secure fence is tested and retested for months!
SJB and I agree. Punish the employers, but FGS, seal the border before anything else is discussed. I am not of the mind nor the heart to cut illegal invaders into our country any slack at all.
Somehow, this thread has gone from Sarah’s endorsement of her choice in the governor’s race in Iowa to the border (again) AND THEN BACK TO THE SENATE RACE IN CA. There are plenty of threads on that subject.
Both primaries are next Tuesday and I think Nevada’s is also.
Amen!!
“true but you can enforce all the laws you want until you change the driving forces people will continue to break the law.”
Sorry, but when we passed our “Prove your right to work” law here 2 years ago,the numbers say it has worked well. We have already lost 30% of our illegals.
Lord, do I know the feeling.
“LOL get real. You’re talking about a woman who took down the Republican establishment as Governor and is still an outcast now.”
We know Sarah Palin is not perfect. The fact that liberals detest her, and continue to attack her means a lot for her continuing bona fides. That said RATS detested Bush too, and he was/is no great conservative to be sure.
I wish she’d stay out of some of these races, stoke her outsider image more, although I understand what some are saying here about posturing for the primaries and caucuses of 2012.
Whoa! Favoring another Republican candidate over your choice is now called "betraying" one's family members serving our country?
Beam me OFF this thread.
“doesn’t seem like the fence is working since the number of illegal continues to increase in that city.”
Although the amount of fence planned by the Bush Admin has almost been completed (or perhaps has)
http://www.nydailynews.com/latino/2009/01/28/2009-01-28_usmexico_border_fence_almost_complete_-2.html
I don’t think it’s complete enough. Unless you have a complete deterrant, you can’t evaluate its effectiveness. Also, not all the fence is equally hardy (metal piping, vs. link, etc., from what I’ve read.)
I have no idea why you think its easier and better to pass and enforce more laws. We don't need more laws. We need to 1 enforce the ones we have and 2) change the fundamentals that are driving illegal immigration, the welfare state and multiculturalism.
“I have no idea why you think its easier and better to pass and enforce more laws.”
When the feds ignore enforcement, there is no alternative on the local level.
Let me ask you a question. If all welfare offices demanded a new updated birth certificate (holograph), and put every applicant through E-Verify, do you think any illegals could get welfare?
And even without BC they get free education, free healthcare, free housing( no credit, no problem)
furthermore ANY CHILD illegal or not gets food stamps. Any child illegal or not gets free education any child illegal or not gets free school lunches and breakfasts
Any child and adult gets free healthcare.
So all the E-verifying and holograph documents you want to pass laws for will not stop the illegal immigration because the welfare state is set up to encourage that illegal immigration. To stop illegal immigration you have to change the welfare state.
and that is not just Mexican. Middle east, European, Asian people the world over flock to this country and other Western nations for the welfare benefits.
what does a fence do to stop those coming in by airplane and boat and overstaying their visas? You build the fence and they will simply come by sea or air or underground. because the fence does nothing to stop the REASON they are coming.
Just because the locals “throw up their hands” and pretend they are powerless does not make it so.
I’m all for sealing the border. I just understand it will not stop the influx until the underlying conditions that promote illegal immigration are solved.
1) Build the fence
2) Pass Arizona Law on employment
3) No more anchor babies. If you read the law, it says no children of aliens, so how the f ck is this allowed?
4) No welfare for illegals, PERIOD
sound slike a plan
think it should be in the reverse order but good enough
We have an opportunity here to elect a very popular Gov. Branstad who should have long coat tails. We have some excellent down-ticket candidates. We have a chance here if we can all hang together. Sometimes we have a tendency to eat our own.
Look Onyx, we can talk to each other like intelligent Conservatives, or we can continue to pretend and play silly games.
There’s not a chance in hell I will support John McCain or anyone who spends months on television trying to convince Arizonans that giving him six more years to do this type of stuff is a good idea.
I respect my fellow Americans and our troops far far too much for that.
I don’t honestly know that else to say to people who think supporting John McCain isn’t a betrayal. Support for him is a betrayal. Support for anyone who would facilitate what John wants to do is a betrayal. That just the long and the short of it.
In your heart, you know I’m right.
