The Peruvian police can get it out of him. To them, Miranda is one of the hookers they bust before the tourists show up.

Maybe this article is all messed up. It sounds like van der Sloot is the one who would be paying.

Maybe you have to tell where you buried your victim for free?

WBRC might want to try to hire someone with at least an elementary school education to write their stories.

Maybe before the Peruvians hang him, he will confess and tell where her remains are. He will sure try to use it to bargain for his life..like the creep here in SD.

Wait, I thought he is being accused of trying to pay for her location.

Got it. The word 'exchange' can be interpreted either way (Van der Sloot paying for the information; or Van der Sloot asking for payment for the information). I'm sure its the latter case (Van der Sloot asking for payment) - but I agree, this write-up is muddled.

I am from B’ham, so this story has always been of interest to me. Actually know a few players in the case.

For someone who claims he had nothing to do with her disappearance, Joran sure does keep himself tied to it all these years later. I knew eventually one day he would slip up and get caught. A dead girl in a hotel room that is rented out under your name? Bad move, Joran. I have to wonder if he has done this to other women around the world, since he is such a globe-trotter. Karma.....

The last thing we need is this guy in the US legal system. Leave him to the Peruvians.

Keep him the hell out of the U S. He will get his justice in Peru. The Liberal ACLU would do all they could to get him off if he were tried up here. Peru will probably hang him.

"Joran Van der Sloot, the longtime suspect in the disappearance of missing Mountain Brook teenager Natalee Holloway, has been accused of offering $250,000 in exchange for her whereabouts.

In a criminal complaint filed Thursday by the U.S. Attorney in Birmingham, Van der Sloot is accused of offering $250,000 to a person in Birmingham in exchange for information about the whereabouts of her remains in Aruba."

Typical confusing sophomoric reporting from the AP. The standard product from "journalis" schools.

Good article, thanks. Here's a preview

U.S. attorney announces arrest warrant for Joran van der Sloot, suspect in Natalee Holloway case (with video)

By The Birmingham News

June 03, 2010, 4:57PM

Federal prosecutors today announced a criminal complaint and arrest warrant for Joran van der Sloot, a suspect in the death of Mountain Brook teen Natalee Holloway.

Van der Sloot, a Dutchman, is charged with wire fraud and extortion for soliciting money on a promise that he would reveal the location of Natalee Holloway's body in Aruba and the circumstances of her death.

The U.S. Attorney's office and FBI said that on May 15 van der Sloot extorted $15,000 as a partial payment, wired from Birmingham to the Netherlands.

The total amount he was to be paid was $250,000. The information that van der Sloot has provided to that unnamed individual was false, federal authorities said.

The announcement comes the same day Van der Sloot was arrested in Chile in the murder of Stephany Flores, 21. Flores was killed in a Lima hotel Sunday, five years to the day after Holloway disappeared.

Joran Van der Sloot.JPGChile's investigative police officers escort Dutch Joran van der Sloot, center, after he was found in a taxi on a highway to the sea coast from Santiago, Thursday, June 3, 2010. Peruvian police are seeking Van der Sloot in connection with the last May 30 killing of 21-year-old Stephany Flores at a Lima hotel. Van der Sloot was previously arrested in the 2005 disappearance of U.S. teen Natalie Holloway, but later released by Dutch authorities.(AP)

Van der Sloot was taken in a dark vehicle to a police office in downtown Santiago. He made no comment as he entered, walking calmly and without handcuffs as journalists shouted his name, the Associated Press reported.

Let's hope he doesn't get released like last time, to kill again.

Are my eyes fuzzy here or what?? Isn’t this saying that Van der Sloot was the one offering the $$$ in exchange for the remains?
