With South Dakotas Republican Primary just a week away, the three top GOP hopefuls are now all running closely competitive races with Democratic Congresswoman Stephanie Herseth-Sandlin.
The latest Ramussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in South Dakota shows Herseth-Sandlin edging Chris Nelson, South Dakotas secretary of state, 47% to 43%. A month ago, she posted a 45% to 41% lead over Nelson.
But now Herseth-Sandlin holds a similar narrow 46% to 43% lead over State Representative Kristi Noem. A month ago, the incumbent led Noem by 15 points 50% to 35%.
Also much closer this month is the contest between Herseth-Sandlin and another GOP state representative, Blake Curd. The congresswoman now gets 48% support to Curds 41%. In late April, she led Curd 48% to 36%.

Stephanie Herseth Sandlin is slipping after being popular for her cautious record. It looks like South Dakota is getting tired of The One.
Not Guilty vs. Not Guilty.
She voted against health care, it passed. She voted against Cash For Clunkers, it too passed. She voted against the bailouts and they passed too. She's loonier and more liberal than her voting record suggests.
She’s guilty of being something she ain’t. She’s a liberal in a RINO costume, and she goes home and talks to the South Dakota press like she’s McCain’s niece.
I think Herseth is toast.
Yeah Herseth is the of the more attractive female rats you’ll ever see in elective office. She sure married down.
But her ugly voting record will do her in this year. Especially since likely GOP nominee Chris Nelson has shaved his stache.
Sadly our Sen. Tim Johnson has since his stroke become a puppet for Harry Reid voting for Obamacare and cap and trade both of which will have devastating effects on South Dakota.
It’s too bad that Tim Johnson didn’t retire. No doubt his ‘Rat colleagues talked him into running.
Being under 50% is a bad sign for her.
