Van der Sloot taken to prison on murder charge LIMA, Peru – Angry Peruvian onlookers shouted "Disgrace!" and "Murderer" at Joran van der Sloot on Friday after a judge ordered him jailed on first-degree murder and robbery charges in the violent killing of a 21-year-old Lima woman.
Prosecutors said the Dutchman, who was taken to a segregated block of an eastern Lima prison, acted with "ferocity and great cruelty" in killing business student Stephany Flores in his hotel room after they met playing poker.

Lima Superior Court Judge Juan Buendia issued a detention order before dawn for Van der Sloot on the murder charge. He was first taken with other prisoners in an armored truck to Lima's judicial palace, then alone to the maximum-security Castro Castro prison.
Police manhandled Van der Sloot as they ushered him to the judicial palace, a scarf around his neck and his hands cuffed behind him.
The 6-foot-3 (190-centimeter-tall) Van der Sloot took about $300 worth of Peruvian currency, two credit cards and Flores' national ID card, Guardia said. He said the suspect abandoned her car in a lower-class Lima neighborhood before fleeing south to Chile by bus.
If convicted on the murder and robbery charges, Van der Sloot would be sentenced to between 15 and 35 years in prison, court spokesman Luis Gallardo told the AP.

At Castro Castro prison, Van der Sloot was fed the Peruvian chicken dish "seco de pollo," prisons director Ruben Rodriguez said.
The Dutchman will have his own cell in a small block near the director's office.

Van der Sloot's schoolteacher mother, Anita, would be arriving early next week with the family's own media adviser.

I’m going to guess prison officials want to keep an eye on him...make sure he doesn’t commit suicide or one of the other prisoners doesn’t harm him before he is tried and convicted. It does, however, smack of some favoritism and special treatment.
I think that’s only because of all the media attention this case has drawn. Once he’s convicted it should be a whole different ball game for Joran. Unless, of course, the Peruvian gov’t wants a riot on their hands. I don’t think their citizens would take kindly to any “special” treatment this monster would receive after a conviction.
Joran is a compulsive liar, a true sociopath. The tape showed him wearing the same red shirt when he returned with coffee as he wore then he fled the hotel. This must mean he killed her before he left to get coffee, and reportedly nobody had drunk the coffees. So what is this him saying he drank coffee and afe after he killed her.
Now he says he will tell where Natalee is buried to Aruban police. Who will believe him?
Watched the video last night of the police bringing him into the building surrounded by media. LOVED how they crammed his head down while they shepherded him into the building in stark contrast to how he was treated in Aruba.

Too bad Joran was served such a nice meal in prison.
It’s hard, but I would’ve discouraged Beth from being taken for a ride again like this with her own money (or the public’s, for that matter). No money to that punk.
She could not have imagined that he would commit murder again. By getting him on wire fraud and extortion, Joran would at least go to prison, as Beth's lawyer explained. Now if for some reason Joran gets a light sentence in Peru, which some claim he will, he will face prison here.

I agree with you - he is a sociopath. I think despite the fact he has been caught, he is enjoying the game of lying and obfuscating the facts and manipulating the authorities.
There is that. While I can't imagine him getting a light sentence, there's a strange solice in knowing he now stands in line to be tried in a U.S. court, too.

You only wish, Joran. You are now in a place where they don’t care who your father was. You have nothing to offer them they want in any way. What they want is YOU—serving out your sentence in dismal conditions. They’ve got it, and it will take a lot more than anything you can give them to turn it around.

Col. Miguel Canlla, chief of homicide investigations, told the AP that Van der Sloot took off his shirt after strangling Flores and put it on her. He said the Dutchman wanted to put her body into a suitcase but couldn’t.

I would rather leave him in Peru where they will kick his ass. I wouldn’t believe anything he said anyway. He is just trying to get back to the people who protected him in the first place. DON’T DO IT!
