What Greer's Arrest Means for the U.S. Senate Race
NBC Miami ^ | Wed, Jun 2, 2010 | Todd Wright

Jim Greer was arrested and charged with fraud

If you think former Republican Party of Florida chairman Jim Greer is having a bad day today, just imagine how Gov. Charlie Crist and Miami- native Marco Rubio feel. Each is tied to the newly incarcerated GOP fundraiser who had a penchant for spending money that didn't quite belong to him.

And on the other side of the coin is Democrat U.S. Rep Kendrick Meek, who can point the "Republicans can't be trusted finger" at his opponents for the 2010 U.S. Senate and hope the votes roll in. Crist's connection is a little more direct considering he supported Greer from the moment he took the post until the day he resigned. The two traveling buddies often stayed in the most lavish hotels and ate the priciest dinners while on GOP business, which these days amounts to crossing the street or any excuse you can think of to use your party-issued credit card.

"It's surprising," Crist said about Greer's arrest. "Sometimes you're disappointed by people."

Rubio, on the other hand, could be viewed as a mini-Greer because of how he used his GOP American Express card to pay for over $14,000 in personal items. Among the purchases were car repairs, an alleged back waxing or really expensive hair cut (depending on who you believe), groceries and plane tickets for Rubio's wife. Greer had a similar accounting practice, but strayed on the side of feloniously illegal when he set up a shell company and funneled fundraiser cash into it for his own use.

He was arrested at his home in Orlando and is still in jail waiting for someone to come up with his $105,000 bail. He is charged with one count of organized scheme to defraud, four counts of felony grand theft and one count of money laundering.

Greer shouldn't expect his former pal, Independent Crist to pick up that tab and as far as we know Rubio's AMEX limit doesn't go that high.

NBC engaging in yellow journalistic malpractice. Charlie Crist is the only one connected (at the hip) to Greer. Lame attempt to smear Marco Rubio with the same brush.

Really...that was a stretch...and any Democrat who points a finger at any Republican should be laughed off the scene.

Crist was blessed by Greer. Rubio was the outsider.

Greer is the one who was helping crist arrange favorit son status.

NBC Miami speaks with forked tounge.

Notice you will never see this type of story when a Democrat fundraiser or politician is arrested.

What a disappointment it was to read the headline only to find out the arrestee wasn’t Judge George Greer who sentenced Terri Schiavo to death.

Meek has as much chance being elected the next Senator from Florida as I do. He has consistently polled third behind Crist and Rubio. Florida is right leaning swing state, it's not going for a far left race baiter regardless of the foibles of Crist and Rubio.

LOL. Noooo, Marco isn't responsible for Greer. Suntan "I am an independent" Charlie is responsible.

The lamestream, Hussein-worshiping ASSWIPE media is doing here what they ALWAYS do: TIE ALL REPUBLICANS TO THE ONE CORRUPT ONE!

This is the same media that REFUSES TO TIE THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THEIR LITTLE IDOL HUSSEIN AND A WHOLE LOT OF CHICAGO THUGGERY CORRUPTION, AMERICA HATERS LIKE BILL AYERS & JEREMIAH WRIGHT, and SOME MYSTERIOUS-NEVER-FOUND COLLEGE RECORDS!

My god, the press REALLY MUST THINK we're still living in the days where THEIR word was just accepted as accurate, fair, and objective. What myopic dumbasses they are.

You are a intelligent individual, can you tell me where all the Crist supporters are. During the primary when he was running againsy Gallagher, this forum was lousely with them. Now they are as scarce as hen’s teeth.

One would expect them, if they were/are honest , to defend their idol because he never changed. He is the same sob now that he was then.

Myself, I voted for Gallagher in the primary and Crist in the General, actually it was against Davis, but, none-the-less it was for Crist, but I never felt right for it.Then I voted for Mc Cain to vote against obama and that did it. As I was coloring in the circle for Mc Cain I swore that I would never knowingly vote for the lesser of two evils again.

The Republican can run all the RINOs they wish, I just won’t vote for them.

As for Crist’s buddy being arrested for stealing, that should not surprise anyone. Grist, in my opinion, when he did not return the campaign contributions to the original donors, stole the money. Birds of a feather.

DITTO BUMP

Rubio reimbursed the RPOF for credit card expenses he incurred as House Speaker....same cannot be said of Greer.

Greer was Crist’s hand-picked Chairman.
First time I laid eyes on Greer and heard him speak, my intuition said..... this guy is bad news!

Crist is such a lightweight in the brains dept. I hope this sinks him eventually bec he picked Greer to begin with! It shows a major lack of judgment.
