You’re right as to strategy there, but I’m not so sure Devore would be in the lead, even if he’d done that. Also, I don’t think Campbell is in any way waltzing into the nomination. That’s good. In any case, the primary is next Tuesday and people have been voting absentee for several weeks already.

We knew this would happen. All that is left is to count the hours until Fiorina’s acceptance speech for the nomination.

That said, I just dropped off my absentee ballot at County elections, after casting my vote for DeVore. I’ll be stunned if he wins it.

Your next question is, why don't Conservatives do better in California general elections. The answer is: 4 registered Democrats for every 3 registered Republicans. This is why, if Abel Maldonado and the California Democrats can get the "Open Primary" initiative passed, you will never see another California Office holder again.

Imagine you have 40 million registered Democrats and 30 million registered Republicans. An open primary allows the top 2 vote-getters to oppose each other in the general election. Democrats could split the vote and still get 20 million votes for each candidate. By contrast, any splitting of the Republican vote will see each candidate getting less than 20 million votes. So you have an almost guaranteed Democrat vs Democrat at the top of the ticket.

Better not rely too much on stale information. The Campbell campaign is generating significant dollars and will be back on tv by Saturday. Strange to imagine - a candidate for public office who won’t borrow money to play the game or use a personal bankroll to buy the election. Maybe that is too progressive for California. Usually, people get the government they deserve.
