It’s a societal Rorshach.
Me and my kind are in the moon landing camp.
To my infinite chagrin all three networks were parroting the same line that morning, which was to ask the question if we should spend money going to the moon rather than feeding the "hungry".
It was at that moment that I became aware that America had gone as far as it would ever go. We had failed to reach "escape velocity". It was a sad moment for me, and since that day the descent has only accelerated.
For later.
He didn’t compare them. Basically he seemed to think Woodstock was kind of a pathetic cultural event when compared to the moon landings.

A silly piece. Besides, the author completely missed Beck’s point.
Woodstock signaled the flush of the cultural whirlpool that set in motion a whole raft of puss.
Agreed. Beck doesn’t accept hippies wallowing in the mud as a significant event when compared to landing on the moon.
Oh yeah! Maybe if he had taken the brown acid...
speaking of Puss (Glenn needs to stop the Drama queen act and act like a man...)
I am certain you didn’t mean to, but you came across like one of the seminar callers to Rush who starts by saying, “I normally agree with you, but...”.
Yep, the cat totally didn’t get it.
Don’t trust anyone over 60.
: )
This debate is a waste of a thread.
Seems to me that both are fine examples of American ingenuity. The promoters of Woodstock set out to make a little money by having a concert on a farm in rural New York, but wound up making millions and creating a legacy that lives on to this day. Many of the musicians who played there also found huge fame and fortune as a direct result of having played that one concert. Apollo was a combined effort of not just NASA, but hundreds of large and small entrepreneurial companies that made all the stuff that made the moon shot possible. Those efforts made Huntsville, AL, come to be known as "Moontown" and aerospace engineering is still thriving there today.
Both are fine examples of how Americans kick ass and are second to none, or at least how we used to kick ass and were second to none. Seems to me reflecting on these two successes should serve as a reminder to everyone as to how far we've slid into the abyss as we witness the world crumbling around us, mostly of our own making.....
Well, no, we can't. Not anymore.
I agree with you AND BECK!

Beck was not wrong in his analogy.

Woodstock represented the loss of hope by the young.
Falling into the abyss of self gratification.
Moon landing represented the striving inherent in humans to seek new and human uplifting pursuits.
There was nothing uplifting or insperational at Woodstock. Just depravity.
Moon landing represented the intelligence and seeking of frontiers beyond the reach of everyday humans.
To deny this is to deny the importasnce of the Lewis and Clark expidition.
Or for that matter the travels of Columbus.
The earth is flat society type thinking.
