UN calls for full inquiry after Israel Navy commandos storm international aid boat; European Union condemns incident. The White House on Monday said it "deeply regretted" the loss of life and injuries sustained in the clashes after Israel Navy troops stormed a convoy of international activists bringing aid to the Gaza Strip, leaving at least 10 people dead."The United States deeply regrets the loss of life and injuries sustained, and is currently working to understand the circumstances surrounding this tragedy," said White House spokesman William Burton.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for a full investigation and expressed shock at Israel's storming of the flotilla.

"It is vital that there is a full investigation to determine exactly how this bloodshed took place. I believe Israel must urgently provide a full explanation," he said at a press conference in the Ugandan capital of Kampala.

France became the first European nation to respond to the early morning's events. Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner said he was "profoundly shocked".

Many of the activists aboard the protest ships were European nationals and analysts have predicted a harsh diplomatic response from the European Union and its member states.

The European Union demanded an inquiry and Germany said it was "shocked". The United Nations condemned violence against civilians in international waters.

Germany, one of Israel's most loyal allies, expressed shock at the deadly interception and questioned whether the action by Israeli commandos was proportionate.

Two members of the Bundestag lower house of parliament were among five Germans on board the ships, the foreign ministry said...

We already know that 0bama has Changed America’s ally from Israel to Hamas.

His finance chair, Penny Pritzker, and campaign manager, David Axelrod, had no problem apparently with residents of Gaza running a phone bank for The One during the election. As I recall, everyone was sorta like, you know, gloating about it. That phone bank had to be approved by Hamas.

Nuke Brussels. Both the EU, Eurabia and the UN need to go.

Of course 0bama regrets it. The terrorists on these boats are some of his staunchest allies and supporters.

I hope Israel sinks all of the boats before any more weapons can get to Hamas.

Who knows. But the be serious i don´t think that the media cares because even if they would show the weapons in front of a camera they allways can say that Israel has placed
this weapons there afterward.

...questioned whether the action by Israeli commandos was proportionate.

This must be intentionally incompetent reporting. How can they discuss the proportionality of Israel's actions without any mention of what what the flotilla was doing to cause the action? Proportionate to what?

True but if this is true “The United Nations condemned violence against civilians in international waters” and this has happened in international waters Israel has a BIG problem.

Still waiting for the deep regrets for the lives lost on the oil rig.

Oh, I forgot, he did say no one grieves more than he for that loss.

I have no sympathy for the activists.

They chose to enter a military blockade. They chose to fight Israeli commandos with deadly weapons. They WANTED martyrs.

Israel did what any military would do if attacked: they returned fire.

What astounds me is not the reaction of liberals and euro-weenies. Its is that European/Liberal culture seems to have robbed manhood out of men. The whining, the ringing of hands...

Seriously, when peace activists resort to violence are they somehow immune to consequences?

Israel was forced into taking actions that would make it look bad in front of the world. The Palestinians and their allies are trying to shame Israel like Gandhi shammed to British. I think there are a few key differences between Israel and the British. Israel is being forced to defend itself. The British were trying to hold together an Empire with brutality.

If Turkey ups the ante with warships and planes, as they most certainly will, then Israel should and must sink the entire flotilla. They have no other choice. Their problem isn’t in the Mediterranean. Their real problem is in the White House (or on Golf course or the basketball court.) A word from the POTUS (and some behind the scenes arm-twisting) could resolve Israel’s problems. But the POTUS is onboard with the bad guys. As a matter of fact I wouldn’t be surprised if he sent Michelle or some other close allies along with the next flotilla.

Israel, you’re on your own. The only ray of hope you have is that the POTUS will handle his issues with Israel as competently as he handled the Gulf Oil spill and everything else he’s touched since ascending to George W’s chair.
