I used to think, given the enormous size of the bureaucracy and the tragic nature of the human condition, that from time to time disasters would overwhelm us and there would be not much the president of the United States could do about them. But after Katrina, the media taught me that neither the mayor nor the governor nor the Army Corps of Engineers nor the people of New Orleans were at fault for either the vulnerability to the chance of a catastrophic Katrina or the response after its arrival. No, you see, the commander in chief is the ultimate arbiter of successful or unsuccessful reactions to all such disasters. OK, so be it.
So while I am not inclined to blame Barack Obama for the scandalous federal laxity in the now polluted Gulf, the media long ago taught me that I most certainly should.....

I’m in! It’s ALL OBAMAS FAULT!
BP=Baraks Problem! (Saw it from a fellow freeper)
Nice post.
Who is in charge of the oil spill?
Nine days went by before Obama mentioned it. BP was in charge. Then Jindal couldn’t get fed approval, so the EPA was in charge. Then Obama says he’s in charge. And went off to play basketball.
Who is the guy? 40 days in and I haven’t heard who is running the show.
Buy I’m sure it’s Bush’s fault.
Obama is the Affirmative Action President. Gets a free pass through life until he’s elevated to a position he obviously is ill qualified to fill.
Exactly.
As it’s been since the beginning, Obama’s biggest liability are his own supporters.
Perhaps the sad state of the once-vital Gulf of Mexico is a fitting metaphor for what Obama is doing to this country(?)
I disagree with the author.
Just because the left/lib/dem party and media did it, does not mean I should imitate their behavior.
It is easy to go with the crowd, and end up jumping on the ‘blame obama’ bandwagon. I see it frequently on FR.
The President cannot perform the daily acts of thousands of government agencies, or cabinet members, or staff members.
What a good President does, though, is inspire those under him to do a good job, do the right thing.
I find that to be lacking.
I’ve been saying it since Jan. 2008, OBAMA’S FAULT.
I blame him. It’s his shop, he hired the people, they reflect his goals. That simple.
That is how it works in the real world. He owns this not because it was an uforseen and devastating event but because his response is to ummmmm “not take calls from governors he doesn’t like” at least in some instances. I am sure he has actually taken Jindals calls but his responses were uh “non respnsive” it appears.
Which contrasts with Bush at least conferring with Blanco before the storm hit, making sure the government could go in. It may or may not be that he actually had to beg her to ask for a state of emergency.
So here we are with Obama, his war against some states gives me very little confidence in him at this point.
That statement was worth repeating.
And .. proves to me why he was chosen - the radicals he was trained, and the Clinton-people who surround him now, know exactly how to take advantage of his lack of skill. The left could not afford a smart black man .. that might elevate the black man and I'm sure the dems don't really want that.
He's a duffus who is unqualified to hold the position.
Hell Yes! He's to blame.
“What the Blame-Bush Media Taught Me: Blame Obama”
That’s exactly what they teach. Pelosi is STILL blaming Bush!
................What a good President does, though, is inspire those under him to do a good job, do the right thing................................
Zer0 has never held a position where anyone ever reported to him. He’s never even run a streetside lemonaide stand.
He has no clue how to pick or motivate qualified personnel. He’s never done it.
What a total embarassment that we have for a leader that is ruining this nation, while Princess Pelosi spends us into oblivian, and Cankles losses all credibility with our allies, and tax cheat Geitner tells our allies how to spend their way swirling down the toilet.
Obama: “The buck stops with Bush.”
Great find. VDH is a master of sarcasm.
