STENNIS SPACE CENTER It could take years and millions of dollars before the full impact of the BP oil spill on the Gulf Coast is uncovered, a Hancock County scientist said.
Michael Carron, director of the Northern Gulf Institute at Stennis Space Center, met Wednesday with representatives from Mississippi and Florida institutions of higher learning for a one-day briefing with the House and Senate in Washington.
They discussed the oil spill and what resources and funding Gulf states universities will need to research its economic, social and environmental impact.

Sounds like a payoff to me.
I think I just found a new job. All I need is a nice boat (suitable for fishing or diving), a small bungalow on the beach and some diving gear. $2 million ought to cover it.
MS Ping
A payoff? Nope, I think they are doing the right thing here. The marshes, especially along the Mississippi River Delta, will fell the effects for many years. BP had little choice but to pony up the research and monitoring dough. The CEO took full responsibility during congressional testimony.
Thanks, I’m at work without access to my ping list.
How are you doing? Recovering OK?
BP is a major player on the ECX (European Climate exchange). The ECX is 50% owned by the CCX (Chicago Climate exchange)
People always assume that tax dollars paid for all the bogus climate studies but the reality is that the bulk of that money came from corporations.
Last I heard there was a strong Marine Science group at University of South Florida...
There is. LSU has an outstanding science program too. USM (University of Southern Mississippi) has the nation's best polymer science program and the Gulf Coast Research Lab.

I am doing fine. Just getting older by the minute.
I really wish BP could get that hole plugged. I work in the oilfield almost 20 years. I have seen wells bridge over on there their own. But this is not likely here becasue it cased in from top to bottom.
Yeah, there is a lot of fishy business with this whole mess. The only silver lining, if there is one, is BP is not an American owned company.
Hope the mess can be cleaned up and drilling can proceed in shallower waters. It just breaks my heart to see this happening. The seafood industry was only just now getting back on its feet after Katrina.
Hope my Vietnamese friends are doing OK.
Buying indulgences.
Half a billion dollars to find out crude oil kills things and businesses fold? Its a pay-off. We’ll see the usual crap come out of these money. Women and minorities hit hardest. The country needed productive workers, not to fund BS artists.
I dated a sociologist who did her internship with Hershey Foods corporation. They funded her research but only used what they wanted to hear.
Of course it is a payoff. I hope bp finds out they can’t buy friends, popularity or survival.
Laid off drilling people need to go to Westlake and piss on bp plaza. An entire industry filled with many honorable, capable hard working people held hostage because of the reckless inexperience and poor operating practices of one company and one drilling team. This need not have happened at all. It is the result of pure reckless negligence! Not cutting corners just negligence.
People capable of drilling post holes in Kansas need to stay there and stay the hell out of blue water. It is obviously more than they can handle.
Settles and Landry have become a monotonous drone. They don’t know what else to do. They got nothing. Landry is making excuses for the lack of progress because they spend three weeks screwing with the BOP stack.
These people are just punching the tarbaby.
Obastard wants this to linger and fester. It just plays into his grand scheme for further and accelerated destruction of the United States.
bp blood money offered to the most willing whores. I wonder how many others are being paid off to continue support of this charade and parade of fancy boy clowns?
What does that mean?
“Global warming is causing the sea to rise which is causing pipes to stretch and break”. That should be worth at least $500k.
(becasue it cased in from top to bottom)
If they were still in the drilling process there would X
amount of open hole from the bottom of the last casing that
had been set to the bottom of the hole. This well had been finished and they had run casing from top to bottom.
(Basically 1 big long piece of steel pipe.) There is no open formation to cave in and bridge the well over. There is the rare possibility the casing could collapse. But that is highly unlikely. I hope this answers your question.
