Newsweak ^ | May 28th | The Spectrum

After several months of smoldering, a slow-burning scandal in Pennsylvania has finally gone mainstream. Did the White House offer Rep. Joe Sestak a plum administration job in return for dropping his bid against Sen. Arlen Specter? Now that Sestak has defeated Specter in the Democratic primary, congressional Republicans are clamoring for a probe, alleging such an offer, if it occurred, may have constituted bribery. Here's the skinny.

Mainly because it took them months to come up with this cock-and-bull story. Nixon could have thought this scheme up in 21 minutes or less ;-)

I’m NOT a legal type, but it sure looks to me like the law was broken. In addition, if former president Clinton offered Mr. Sestak ANY position in the federal government, it seems to me that there are grounds to allege CONSPIRACY to bribe Mr. Sestak; otherwise, Mr. Clinton had no power to bestow the the gift of an appointment of Mr. Sestak to any position whatsoever. Somebody in the White House had to have given Mr. Clinton the OK to offer a job to Mr. Sestak, and, in the case of a cabinet or very high level position, the President almost certainly would have been onboard with the plan to exert improper influence, or BRIBE.

"Richard Painter:
The allegation that the job offer was somehow a "bribe" in return for Sestak not running in the primary is difficult to support."

Somehow, even if he was a Republican official, anyone with a name like Dick Painter is difficult to believe.

the MSM is trying to float the boat that this may be unethical, but not a crime -

It IS a crime - a felony.

[Federal law] 18Usc211 says that a government official cannot receive anything of value in return for a promise of government employment.

That is to say, you can’t offer somebody a government job in return for receiving anything that could be considered a benefit

the wheeling and dealing they did for votes on the health care bill were unethical, dastardly, - but don't fall under this law.

The Sestak offer - and the Romanov offer - DO.

Here's an interesting update

http://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2010/05/sestak_cover_story_starts_to_u.html

and let's not let THIS story get buried or scrubbed - need to be cached... this may be the stronger case as the autual jobs are named...We have to start pounding on this one

Quote: “On Sept. 27, 2009, the Denver Post reported that the Obama administration offered Senate candidate Romanoff a position if he canceled plans to run for the Democratic nomination against incumbent Sen. Michael Bennet.

“The paper said the job offer, which specified particular jobs, reportedly was delivered by Jim Messina, Obama’s deputy chief of staff. One position the Post cited was a job at USAID, the foreign aid agency.”

http://www.newsmax.com/InsideCover/romanoff-sestak-obama-job/2010/05/26/id/360232

This was last fall and the investigation should have been well under way by now.

Sestak has been playing cat and mouse - maybe to see where he can strike the best deal. But Romanoff named names and jobs - and the person offering him the job - Jim Messina, Obama’s deputy chief of staff. BINGO. A lot cleaner and less entangled that backtracking from bubba to Rahm to the “WON”

Sestak never puts his coat on but carries it slung over his right shoulder. His advisors must think that gives the impression that he is one hard workin dude for the Rat cause.

They really are not very bright. They are living off the radical Alensky book and don’t know how to lead now that they have control. Liberals are a strange bunch.

I’ll bet the MSM - especially the New York Times - doesn’t give a hoot about this story. If a Republican had done the same, we’d be hearing about it a year from now...

I do not buy the argument that Clinton had no authority, he is an ex-president, and that alone should imply that he has authority from the highest level. Furthermore, anything offered by an ex-president has value.

The part about Clinton being the one charged with making the bribe ... er, offer to Sestak is a fraud, they cooked this up and confirmed it on Thursday in order to get the lamestream and the left to buy the story. Whomever was the actual White House official who contacted Sestak, as he claimed it was the first out of his mouth, would of course have full authority to make good on whatever offer was made.

It isn't the person who offers what made the job a thing of value, any position in the WH, administration is a thing of value, regardless it's a paid or unpaid position. Influence, contact, etc. You also know the part of the story being the job was a position on an advisory board so Sestak could keep his House seat is a lie because the Constitution disallows it. He was offered the position of SecNavy, same as McHugh got the nomination for SecArmy, sooner or later, Sestak will have to cop to that detail.
