Newt Gingrich is increasingly looking like a very serious contender for the Republican nomination in 2012 if he decides to take the plunge. He's been posting significant support in all of our state by state polling looking ahead to the contest, but his performance on our California poll this week was particularly impressive.
Gingrich led the way in the state with 28% on our poll to 25% for Mitt Romney, 18% for Sarah Palin, 13% for Mike Huckabee, and 10% for Ron Paul. California (obviously) is a long way from Georgia and Gingrich putting up those kinds of numbers so far from home is a clear sign that he'd be more than a regional candidate.

Add one more to the “NO” list...
Newt,.....no! Stick a fork, you are done!!!
Then you need to get back on the program!
Gingrich SEEMS to have had a change of heart and sounds more Conservative as of late.
Which would be the best indicator that the idiot is indeed thinking of a go at the presidency.
And your last statement explains it well:
But then again, so does McCain ...
If they are running, they miraculously become conservatives.
Enough already!....Newt’s time has passed. He’s made some bad choices along the way that are just too much baggage.
Not me....NEVER EVER!
Gingrich/Pelosi 2012!!!
Newt had his run, it is time to gracefully accept that and back another candidate. We need new blood and true conservatives for the 2012 election.
He needs to stay doing what he does.
Among other things mentioned, his support of Dede Scossafava (or however it’s spelled) in NY 23 last November demonstrated a stunning lack of political instinct and a tone deafness to the tea party movement that’s been brewing.
Making matters worse, even after it was clear that Dede was a Rino far worse than anyone that was already in Congress at the time and that we had a good conservative alternative in Doug Hoffman, Gingrich still stuck with Dede and continued to support and defend her in public appearances.
I know people make mistakes, but this incident just shows that Gingrich does not look particularly closely at a candidate’s record before backing them. As long as they have the “R” by their name, that’s good enough for him.
This kind of attitude is simply unacceptable for a POTUS candidate in 2012. As others have said, he should stay right where he is.
Newt the candidate is a disaster.
I, too, believe Newt has found his gingniche.
I’ll take Mr. Newt, warts and all if the rest of the NON-Rinos aren’t available.
Sarah, DeMint, Pence, Pawlenty, Christie?, etc. It’s still a bit early.
Key item, we can’t let the MEDIA select our 2012 candidate. Our primary system needs to be CLOSED to DemonRat corruption.
The Lame Stream would rip Newt as of today, but who’s to say what will happen to the Lame-News in the next year or so? Will the American people finally wise up to the leftist pee-yellow journalism in the US?
Then there’s the Tea Party effect. Let’s see how strong we are in November. If we take both the House and Senate and see who has a backbone to stand up and take leadership positions. There MUST be a more vocal and AGGRESSIVE stand by Conservatives in Govt. He who articulates the Principles of Conservatism best to the American rank and file can win in 2012.
As Rush says, Conservatism wins everytime it’s tried...
G
Right you are. He has a great intellect and grasp of history, but he is a liar and morally corrupt. His own party threw him out of the Speakership.....that says it all.
He is going to try to revive a new contract for America strategy...one that ultimately the GOP and the Democrats will NOT honor.
Will be another complete waste of time.
Time to fix our country once and for all.
Newt finds his spine and guts when he’s out looking for votes. He turned me off when he went on camera (over and over) and smiled at the enemies of America. So, far the only Americans willing to face down RATs and tell us the unvarnished truth are Jim DeMint, Michele Bachmann, the Governor of NJ, Jan Brewer of Arizona, and a very few others.
They’re all suck ups in my opinion.
LOL. the Gnich that stole East Anglia....
I will not, for love or money, ever vote for Newt in a Presidential contest. Without question or negotiation. I enjoy his books, and I think he did well enough in the nineties as a congressman, but NO. If the Republican Party nominates him, I WILL not vote for him. Neither would any in my family. We simply aren’t willing to vote for RINOs any further. That goes for Huck, Romney, et al, too. Either a batch of genuine conservatives are presented, or else. I will not be a “moderate,” because, to me, that only means that I must compromise my principles. The last time I did that, I found McCain on the ticket, and look how that fared. The phrase about elections having consequences could, and should, be extended to the candidates themselves. Hey, NRC: Do you want to be a vibrant, viable source of political goodness for this wonderful land? DO THE RIGHT THING! Run Conservative Candidates Only.
newt was neutered by the clintons
and has no chance.
