Obama got more money from people who are (or were) employed by BP. BP itself - the corporate entity or its PAC - gave no money to Obama at all.

"During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of $77,051 from the oil giant and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records."

Yes. Both things are true. He received $77,051 from employees of the oil giant, and he is the top recipient of individual donations by employees of BP over the past 20 years.

Look at the way Politico wrote that paragraph. It’s all true - you can go to the Open Secrets website and search for Obama and BP donations yourself.

That money ALL came from individuals who were employed by BP. That is what is meant by “from the oil giant”. NONE of it came from BP or its corporate PAC. NONE of it was bundled.

The implication that Obama was bought off by BP is not supported by the actual facts of donations.
