I took a break from work, and watched the live feed for a minute. I either just saw the whole thing entirely blow out, or BP is implementing LMRP or hot tap right now.
Specifically, I saw a HUGE rain of white clumps and particles which are either foam-like objects used in a junk shot or methane hydrates.
Then all of the water within the camera view got very, very dark. When I looked more closely, I could make out the outline of massive jet-black plumes of oil rising from below the camera.
At least as of right now (6:00 pm Pacific Standard Time), if you look at the live video feed below, you can see what I mean.
This is either very, very bad, or BP has abandoned the top kill/junk shots altogether and is in the middle of surgery where it has already cut off sections of the BOP and/or riser, and is trying to cap it off with a sealing grommet.

whatever happened to that bent pipe they were showing weeks ago (it looked like a periscope with oil coming out the end)?
It looked different from the one we’ve seen the past week.
FUNNY!
Why don’t they try just lowering a great big boulder on top of it?
Nah, too simple.
i guess the only thing left to do is send a shuttle mission, better make it two so that there is double the chance of success, to the source of the leak. armed with nucular warheads, they drill into the bottom of the sea bed for about a mile and lower the nuke into it and detonate it. splitting the asteroid, er, oil leak, into smaller, more manageable leaks. brue willis can lead one expedition and matt damon’s broverly sidekick the other.

That looks like a pretty good summary. I can’t believe that no one noticed that the well was flowing.
If it’s that bad then BP can go to hell!
Not all the time, and it did not work all the time, and who trusts them to reveal their disasters, anyway?
Obama took credit too early.
Excellent summation of BPs idiotic cost cutting mistakes that caused the blowout, Penny wise and pound foolish
Hi
Someone said the two relief wells will not become production wells. Do you have any info on that? To me it is logical they produce to relive pressure if nothing else.
Of course, that would require approval by the MMS and a host of other agencies who might not grant that approval, which would be foolish, imho, 'cause all the money the Feds intend to suck out of BP over this has to come from somewhere.
Maybe their intent is to 'nationalize' an oil company. (The oil industry has been in the Socialists' sights for a long time, and once they had one, they could rig things so there would be competition only onshore on private leases and abroad.)
Over half of the US west of the Mississippi is Federally owned, and the disparity resulting from only the gubmint oil company being allowed to drill there would mean other producers would be at a disadvantage.
Of course, if the Government did drilling like they do everything else, either nothing would get done, or the result would be such a cluster**** that it might be prudent to invest in buggy whip makers.
So did you lose your job ThePatriotsFlag?
Two new wells are being drilled from differing angles, targeted to intersect the defective well.
The goal is to then pump cement, etc thru these two wells so as to seal off the entire reservoir.
Sure but will they pump and produce afterward? Not this reservoir needs any pumping ...lol
The most likely use of the relief wells is this. If the first is successful, it will be used to pump heavy drilling fluid into the wellbore which is blowing out to control the well. The next step would be to pump cement to plug the wellbore. If that is successful, the first relief well would have done its job, and the second (a backup relief well) could conceiveably be steered away from the area immediately proximate to the original wellbore and used for production, if the casing plan for the well was enough to permit that. >>>>>>>>>
A super quickie relief well perhaps skips the casing requirements you mention. As you say, BP needs the money to pay off people so I hope the relief wells are converted to production. It’s like a crooked businessman who is not thrown in prison right away so that he can earn the money to make resitution
Obama rule #827
“It’s never too early to take credit”.
I love the way he set it up. If they fail to stop the oil, Obama is GREAT because he’s gonna stomp ‘em on behalf of the American People and make sure those evil, useless, greedy corporations get what’s coming to ‘em by taking over their industry and/or taxing them into bankruptcy.
If they succeed in stopping the oil, Obama is GREAT because, as he said (and he would never LIE, would he?) the Regime has been on top of this since Day One, working tirelessly on behalf of the American People to make sure those evil, useless, greedy corporations did the RIGHT THING by listening to the Regime experts on how to stop the leak. Finally, because the Regime kept trying (no matter what vacations got in the way) it worked.
Either way, the fawning media will continue to wear out their kneepads by breathlessly reporting Obama’s progress in saving the Our Beaches, The Ocean... nay, the entire WORLD on a fifteen minute schedule.
The folks on those rigs drilling the relief wells had damned well better be prepared to pump a hell of a lot of mud BEFORE they ever get to the casing as this thing is flowing OUTSIDE the pipe!
Obama has suspended all new Gulf of Mexico deep-water drilling (by all companies) for at least the next six months.
While technically BP (or others) could at some point resume production on this field - my guess is that they will be prevented from doing so.
Likewise there is a strong effort on the left in congress to force BP out of ANY new production - this will also be fought in the courts for years to try and stop BP and every other company from drilling in US deep-water
Your predictions are all good. I would just add that if somehow BP stops the oil flow tomorrow then they won’t get as much blame for eco-destruction....than if it takes months for the relief wells to stop it
Obama can’t wait to use BP as a whipping boy to hurt all oil production in America...In fact he already is.
Well, I haven’t seen any reference to the well flowing outside of the casing in the wellbore, and would welcome a link.
Either way, it isn’t just the quantity, it is the quality. the mud weight has to be enough to exert enough hydrostatic pressure to kill the well, regardless of whether the well is producing in an annular space or not. I am sure they will have a lot on hand.
remember the old margarine ads..
“Its not nice too fool with mother nature”
If this blows the entire world is in deep shit.
Nuke it
