I took a break from work, and watched the live feed for a minute. I either just saw the whole thing entirely blow out, or BP is implementing LMRP or hot tap right now.
Specifically, I saw a HUGE rain of white clumps and particles which are either foam-like objects used in a junk shot or methane hydrates.
Then all of the water within the camera view got very, very dark. When I looked more closely, I could make out the outline of massive jet-black plumes of oil rising from below the camera.
At least as of right now (6:00 pm Pacific Standard Time), if you look at the live video feed below, you can see what I mean.
This is either very, very bad, or BP has abandoned the top kill/junk shots altogether and is in the middle of surgery where it has already cut off sections of the BOP and/or riser, and is trying to cap it off with a sealing grommet.

forever ?
Yeah.
The shrimp are currently spawning. So are so many other species. This is the absolute worst time for something like this to happen.
Yeah, I say forever because it won’t recover in my lifetime. The oil will be deep in the sand. The oysters will be inedible for decades.
There won’t be shrimp. There won’t be a lot of other species for fish and other sea life to feed off of. There won’t be near as many fish for the birds. It’s going to screw the food chain for a generation.
Fish will not be able to live in this water. This isn’t Alaska or the Valdez.
As this is not the same as the one... I posted earlier on another thread (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2523021/posts?page=16)
Manatees are pretty fragile as it is. They took a real hit this winter with the cold weather. I can’t imagine what this is going to do to them.
MY PATENTED OIL SPILL SOLUTION;
PHASE 1) BLAST SHEETS OF SCREEN MESH INTO THE HOLE. - IT FILTERS THE PRESSURE, PREVENTS ANY IMPACT DAMAGE AND WILL NOT EASILY BLAST OUT OF THE HOLES PROVIDING SUPPORT FOR PHASE 2.
PHASE 2) BLAST IN SHAM WOW TOWELS. THIS IS A STURDY MATERIAL AND WILL ALSO FILTER & SLOW THE PRESSURE AND AS THE SHEETS ACCUMULATE TOWARDS THE HOLES IT ALSO PREVENTS IMPACT DAMAGE.
PHASE 3) BLAST IN THE TOP KILL MIXED WITH HUMAN AND HORSE HAIR. JUST LIKE CLOGGING A DRAIN THE HAIR DOES IT’S JOB HOLDING THE MUD TOGETHER ALLOWING IT TO HARDEN.
Aint no lobster in the gulf.
The Texas oyster beds, shrimp and fishing are fine.
We’ll survive this.
I don’t know what these guys are thinking stuffing golf balls down there. Why don’t they just use rip rap!

I watched the vid at your link. It is hard to tell what happened but first, it can’t be good and second, 90 some percent of what went on looks out of control. Near the beginning something blew and then most of the rest of the footage shows water with discolorations and junk in being propelled in every direction (styrofoam seemed to be the main ingredient). Several times I thought I saw a large quantity of something much darker shooting up from the bottom of the screen which I assume could be oil.
If I were forced to guess what I saw, I would say the riser(?) at the beginning (the equipment we’ve seen so often with the muddy water billowing out of it) was see sawing around, then there was an explosion and then all the stuff that they had jammed down the hole came out. Toward the end, with a bit of clearing, it looked like whatever was shooting out from below (oil?) was doing so at an increased volume and force. Finally, at the very end we got a look at an ROV but I could not tell what it was doing.
Is that what you saw?
I don’t understand what we’re looking at in this shot. What are the plumes coming out OF? Are those pipes of some sort?

Did he forget that oil is black?
the duck was the winning touch
Where I said “riser” should be BOP, I guess. Can’t follow all these unfamiliar terms and acronyms...
I guess Shrillary parted with her locked ball box...
must be a good collection of hardy nuggets in there.
PHASE 3:
I had 3 daughters with long hair and each washed it every day. I can agree that the hair would clog any opening! LOL
It’s the collapsed “riser” above the Blowout Preventer ( BOP ), with “mud” ( drilling fluid ) and oil and other products being spewed from fissures in it. It has been the star of the show. A lot of the pressure is from the injection of “mud” into the well, which constitutes the “top kill”. Earlier today it looked to me like it might be succeeding, but it’s hard to tell, especially when you don’t know anything about it! It’s complicated.
I have learned a little about the BOP, though. It has impressive sounding engineering ( i.e. it acts with great force ) which is supposed to act as a shutoff valve to prevent a blowout. In this case, it famously didn’t work, but it did constrict the exit orifice, as far as I understand.
The “top kill” is injecting “mud” into the plumbing of the BOP which allows access to the drill hole below the supposedly closed BOP valve. Since it’s open, however, the “mud” blows back up through the BOP and out the riser, which is what we are mainly seeing. The question is how much oil and methane are still coming out with it.
Meanwhile,,,,,,
Petrobras of Brazil just announced, today, that ir will expand ultra deep ocean drilling and start drilling in 7,000 feet of water in the Black Sea.
Petrobras was granted a US-Taxpayer guaranteed $ 10 billion loan FOR THE PURPOSE of funding deep drilling by a decision of OBAMA in August 2009.

Hey, looks like some action on the Live Video. An ROV is moving in on the ruptured riser.
