In reports that appear to have been missed in the flurry of reporting this afternoon on the Obama administration's release of a cursory report on its in-house investigation on the administration's attempted bribery of Rep. Joe Sestak, CNN's John King reported that a White House source told him Barack Obama was kept in the dark about the bribe attempt until "recent days."
Posting on Twitter around 1 p.m. EDT, King reported in three Tweets what his sources were telling him about the unfolding scandal:
WH Source: prez didnt know about rahm/clinton/sestak talks until recent days; GOP pressing for more details.
WH memo lacks important details. Source says COS Emanuel did not check with counsel office before enlisting Clinton. #sestak
Svl other WH aides knew of Emanuel/Clinton effort. WH memo doesn't mention. #sestak
King has not posted to his Twitter account since posting these three reports.
Is someone in the White House trying to create a case for Obama's innocence in the Sestak scandal? It sure looks that way. It's not credible, but it shows an acknowledgement by some in the Obama administration that Obama himself could be in serious trouble if he is found to have been involved in the Sestak bribe attempt.
This is looking more like the Watergate cover-up with each passing hour. (And we know how that ended.)
And now the story is it was just an un-paid position.
Also note the first official response from the White House was to lie about a job offer to Sestak.
Why tell a harmless truth when you might get away with floating a lie? /s
Obummer......... “That’s just Not the Rhaum Emanuel I knew”
I’m wondering if it was Dennis Blair’s job that was offered? Clinton glossed things over in a New Jersey senate race once before but he had the green light from the Obama on this baby.
Is Obama getting ready to throw Gibbs under the bus? Wasn’t he going to check on it?
Yeah, and Obama didn’t know about what his preacher, Rev Wright was talking about either in his own HATE MONGERING church where he sat for 20 years!
Obama has selective hearing.
Clinton is Rahm’s Daddy! LOL.
Me too but we be stuck with plugs.
This administration is not intelligent enough to sit on this explanation this long. Accordingly, this is a total fabrication. I wonder what they had to give Bill to take the fall.
Just wait the next words out of O’s mouth will be executive privilege for dead fish.
Likely right, but Rahm is still in Israel...getting jeered.
Did the White House actually use the words "bribe attempt"? Really? Wow.
Rahm is the key to the whole thing.
It aint 0, IMO.
:)
Sure ain't MO, 'cuz she's O's daddy.
So, okay. . .It was all so innocent that they had to enlist Clinton to dicuss Sestak's career goals? We are to believe they enlisted a former Liar-in-Chief to 'map' our Sestak's career? And innocent (not) or otherwsie; given that Clinton is NOT part of this Administration then why would Clinton be involved, period. Why is he doing Obama's job or anything on his behalf. . .
Apparently, Obama,Inc. really do believe that ANYone, who is not in their inner circle, does in fact ride, in the back of the proverbial turnip truck.
I pray that sooner, rather than later; this turnip truck turns upside down on Obama, Inc.
AP -- Pennsylvania Senate Candidate Joe Sestak finally admitted today that a former disbarred and disgraced President not actually connected to the current administration offered him the bird whistle from a box of Cracker Jacks in exchange for his not running against Arlen Specter in the Pennsylvania Democratic Senatorial Primary last May. Sestak contended that nothing illegal happened because the bird whistle "did not actually work," and "might have been handed to me during another part of the conversation."
According to a statement released this morning by the Office of the White House Counsel, the former President and admiral were walking down K-street last February chatting offhandedly while Mr. Clinton munched on the delicious snacks. "Joe, this is going to be a very difficult primary -- you might not want to run. Say... is Fort Marcy Park around here anywhere?" The former President found the prize near the bottom of the box, and, attempting to test the bird whistle apparently damaged the membrane. "You want this, Joe? I think it's broken."
Sestak agrees substantially with the WH account, and says that shortly thereafter Mr. Clinton dropped the subject and turned to commenting on the rear-ends of passersby. "The guy is a real horndog," Sestak recalls, "I mean gosh. It was February in DC, with winter coats and everything."
Pressed why he blew such an innocent happenstance into an allegation of bribery and corruption during the primary, Sestak remarked: "It was a Democratic Primary. They'll believe anything, you know? I mean, a government takeover of health care that will actually cover millions of uninsured people and save billions? I mean, COME ON. Anyway, I want to make clear that Mr. Clinton isn't part of this administration, even if his wife is, and just so you all understand, I did not even keep the bird whistle. In fact, I may not even have touched it at all. I barely even glanced at the thing as a matter of fact. So, there were no felonies, and if there were neither I nor any member of the present administration was involved. You can check with the White House. They'll tell you the same thing."
The eerily similar accounts have raised eyebrows in a town not typically esteemed for veracity, since if both parties are saying the same thing, surely it must be the absolute truth. Yet there did seem to be a problem with the timing, with Sestak claiming that the February date was "seared" into his memory, while the WH memo claims the contacts actually occurred in June or July of 2009.
Reached for comment later on the timing, Admiral Sestak seemed to back away somewhat from his earlier certainty. "What did I say? February? I've got a terrible memory for dates. If the White House claimed it was June it was probably June. Did I mention I was a three star Admiral who was only interested in serving the working families of Pennsylvania? Well I am. Could've been June. June... maybe July."
