Court Denies Ex-Astronaut's Request for to End Probation

Considering objections from Lisa Nowak's victim, an Orlando judge Monday denied the former astronaut's request to terminate her probation for attacking a fellow military officer over a mutual love interest.

According to documents from the Ninth Circuit Court, Nowak was eligible for termination once she reached the halfway mark of her one-year probation period. But the judge instead loosened her sentence to administrative probation, which does not require the Navy captain to report to a probation officer.

Florida law says administrative probation is reserved for a defendant who "represents a low risk of harm to the community."

Court Denies Ex-Astronaut's Request for to End Probation

Now that ain't gramaticulary proper. It could be "Request for End to Probation," or "Request for End of Probation," or "Request to End Probation."

However, unless we're singing Polly Wally Doodle, we're not "for to"-ing.

I find it disgusting that this person ever got to be a Navy O-6. This is what happens when political correctness takes precedence over the normal screening process. Remember Kara Hultgreen? A crashed F-14 and two dead aircrew are a good example of what happens when the military is dead-set on “proving” that a woman can do any job. Fine, give them a chance, but don’t short-circuit the qualification process to force them in.

Reminds me of Captain Holly Graf of the Navy cruiser Cowpens.

What a piece of work she was...And she almost became an Admiral!

Statement: "...which does not require the Navy captain to report to a probation officer."

Response: Is this clown still in the Navy? As a Captain?

I find it disturbing that she remains an O-6.

Hultgreen only killed herself, thankfully. The RIO, Lieutenant Matthew P. Klemish, punched out, suffered minor injuries and survived.

It’s kinda hard to find out much about Klemish. I’ve been curious about his career after that incident.

I forgot about this, but I sure agree. This kind of PC garbage infects all sectors of govt. and industry. Whenever you have a climate where demographics become more important than who can actually do the job well, this is the kind of crap that results. I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.

In the case of Holly Graf, I don’t know what she specifically did (we may never know). Her career advancement has stopped but it’s crap that she gets to continue to be an O-6 and gets to continue on to her cushy Pentagon job.

I concur. Considering the circumstances of how she became an ex-astronaut, being an ex-Navy Captain should also follow. What a legacy, she’s probably the first ex-astronaut that couldn’t land a speaking engagement in front of her hometown’s Chamber of Commerce, much less the fanfare, state dinners, and conventions that usually follow current and ex-astronauts (as well as the myriad of six-figure PR and scientific consulting jobs that they have the pick of). If this is America’s best and brightest, the selection process needs a serious overhaul.

I find it misguided that they made her take anger management classes. Anger management helps a person with impulse control problems. It’s not an impulse when you go to Home Depot and purchase a dozen items specifically thought out to restrain, incapacitate, and kidnap a person, then get in a car and drive for 900 miles to do it. And, she did it while wearing NASA diapers so that she could do the trip without being delayed by bathroom stops on the way there. That level of premeditation and single-mindedness is deeply disturbing. I’d like to see what Nowack’s psych-evals say, but I’m sure the Navy shrink “lost” them, retired, has his CYA portfolio up to date, and has the phone numbers of a few good lawyers taped to the fridge. Talk about ridiculous.
