Washington (CNN) - Sen. John McCain has released more tough ads against his Republican primary opponent, now saying that J.D. Hayworth is an "Avid Earmarker."
That is the title of the television and radio spots that the McCain campaign released statewide on Thursday. Sen. McCain is locked in a battle with the former congressman to win the GOP senate nomination in Arizona.
Both the radio and television ads cite Hayworth being "described as an 'avid earmarker.'" In a corresponding e-mail to reporters, the McCain campaign listed media reports to bolster their claim.
In the TV ad, McCain is cast as a staunch opponent "against pork barrel spending." "He fights to save us money," an announcer also says.

Overtaxation is the reason we even have earmarks. Seems to me that McCain sits at the root of that problem.
Give it up, McCain. Nobody is buying your BS!
Wasn’t he going to name names on pork, or something. I’ve yet to hear one name. McCain is getting pretty desperate. He should do the right thing for the country and drop out.
I heard that he runs around with his epidermis out!
McCain fights to SAVE us money? Does he mean that by spending the $700 BILLION on TARP we SAVED money?
Earmarks are over-rated. If you add up all the dollars spent on ear-marks and compare that to total federal spending, it is nothing, probably less than 1%.
Penny wise and pound foolish....that is what I think of when McCain talks about ear-marks. A good business person worries about the big expenses, not waste time on insignificant ones.
There is nothing quite so pathetic as this McAmnesty trying to paint himself as a hero of conservatism by smearing a true conservative.
Simply pathetic.
When in school, he matriculated with dozens of co-eds, but soon he was visiting homeopaths and bilinguals. As a radio journalist, he frequented idiom dens, and has been photographed mounting a dappled ungulate.
Funny how that dumb SOB McCain thinks JD’s petty earmarks are more loathsome than his 2.8 billion dollar amnesty plan.
Make that TRILLION
Time for a new big spending RINO. McCain need to retire to one of his wife’s 10 houses.
Nobody outside AZ maybe, but within that state, quien sabe?
When the charge and counter-charge smoke clears away, the point remains that Hayworth is not McCain. McCain HAS to go. In six years Hayworth can be dumped but that will be six years without McCain.
