BOISE, Idaho State Rep. Raul Labrador defeated Vaughn Ward in western Idaho's 1st Congressional District and punched his ticket to face incumbent Democrat Walt Minnick in November.
"My friends, the key to our renewal is liberty," Labrador told a cheering crowd at GOP headquarters in Garden City shortly before 1 a.m. Wednesday. "The answer to Obamaism is liberty."
Ward, a Marine reservist and a first-time candidate, had a 6-to-1 money edge and the backing of the Idaho and national GOP hierarchy. Ward was a commanding presence on TV, while Labrador ran only a smattering of radio spots in the final two weeks. Both are from Eagle.
The House race grabbed national attention in the final days after Palin, the 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate, came to Boise Friday to rally for Ward, who was the Nevada state director of the McCain-Palin campaign.

Ward’s campaign stepped on its John Thomas. It was nothing Labrador did.
In other words, Palin owed the guy the favor.
What did the campaign do?
Labrador is soft on illegal immigration, see his own comments and other sources: http://www.labrador4idaho.com/2010/05/rauls-comments-on-immigration-for-your-eyes-also/ and http://conservativetimes.org/?p=5465. He flew under the radar and decided to jump on the tea-party bandwagon. If he gets to Congress, he’ll be dependable vote for the rats on illegal immigration.
On there website, they lifted almost verbatim policy statements from Paul Ryan’s and Duncan Hunter Jr’s campaign websites. The attempt at fixing it didn’t work either. Also, in one of his speeches, the writer cribbed and rearanged some of Obama’s speech (nothing liberal, just grandiose nonsense). So he end up firing some staff towards the end of his campaign and the media (and his opponent) had a field day.
It is not some lock-step voting organization, and NOBODY is their leader making endorsements on their behalf.
Tea Party voters share many viewpoints, but they are still pluralistic.
“Tea Party vs Palin in Idaho House GOP primary, and Tea Party won”
Good.
Actually, not good in this case. Labrador sounds weasily about illegal aliens.
Well it appears this one was a crapshoot, his opponent had ethical issues.
Nah. He had boneheaded webmaster issues.
Can someone tell me the true story of him ‘supposedly’ plagiarizing obama’s 2004 speech.
I tried to do a post earlier and it got deleted right away.

But it doesn't fit Rabs and the liberal media narrative that a Palin-endorsed candidate went down in flames.
I thought that “Tea Party” was the gathering, not a group or organization.
That's the problem right there. Ward made so many mistakes, and these people were right there in his campaign.
You need to do your homework.
Labrador talks out of both sides of his phony mouth about amnesty.
