President Obama is open to the idea of Puerto Rico becoming a state, Associate Attorney General Thomas Perrelli said at a meeting of a task force devoted to issues related to the U.S. commonwealth.
"The president strongly believes that the status question is a significant one" Perrelli said at this week's meeting of the President's Puerto Rico Task Force. "He also believes that Puerto Rico's status must be based on self-determination by the people of Puerto Rico. And we on the task force are here with open minds on this issue."
Perrelli co-chairs the task force and attended on behalf of the administration. His complete remarks can be read here.

was your point to say that all dems aren’t liberals? i guess you believe in blue dogs still (even after the health care bill)?
Residents of Puerto Rico do not pay federal income taxes. Even if they became a state, they likely still would not pay federal income taxes, because the people there are relatively poor compared to the rest of the U.S. Currently, only 47% currently pay federal income taxes. Apparently, becoming a state would allow even more money to flow into P.R.
Anything for votes and to redistribute more of our wealth.
As one of his first acts, Obama brought the entire census process and counting into the White House. Why? They started from day one to cover all angles it “counting” Americans in ways that will conclude America is mostly Hispanic. Keeping illegals here, bringing in others, redistricing, the falsifying the numbers are all part of the same scam.
As far as I know, it is of no consequence what he thinks about statehood for any territory. It isn’t his domain to decide.
Definitely Not. Nope, in No way, nix, nein, nada.
I meant that the Dems would have 8 more folks who would be Pelosi/Reid-obots who would vote as they are told to vote. Blue dogs in the Dem party are an extinct breed as far as I am concerned. those 8 Dems would make it harder for the Repubs/Conservatives to get control of the House & Senate.
Has he ever been closed to anything?
Yes he has and is CLOSED to a free market economy, small government, personal responsibility, the idea that this nation is a constitutional republic and not a dictatorship of, by, and for community organizers.
