Reporting from Houma, La. Engineers have succeeded in stopping the flow of oil and gas into the Gulf of Mexico from a gushing BP well, the federal government's top oil spill commander, U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen, said Thursday morning.

Water is heavier than air. Go outside and point your hose at full pressure, with a wind (current) straight up in the air with your thumb over it. Does it fall right back down?

A victory lap for doing what should have been done weeks ago?

I guess you think that pulling the required equipment came out of "thin air"...and was available weeks ago...

sheeshhhh.....

No victory lap. His leadership was non-existent on both stopping the spill and dealing with the impact....especially in dealing witht he impact. Jindal and Carvile are screaming bloody murder at him for the post-spill impact absentee leadership.

That’s where Obama is criminally negligent.

At this point all they really know is that they have been able to overbalance the well with weighted mud but that is great progress in and of itself.

If the well is structurally damaged down hole and the formation is taking fluid (”drinking” the weight material being injected at some rate) the operation to inject cement is greatly complicated but still doable. They probably haven’t had enough time yet to fully determine for sure what the down hole dynamics are.

I don’t trust BP either frankly. A former Shell Oil exec has been saying they could have had tankers out there capturing this oil 30 days ago. The rumor is that BP didn’t do it because they didn’t want a record of how much oil was really leaking.

I agree about the federal government and Bambi. They should have ordered tankers out there weeks ago like the law requires.

BTW..What’s with the smuck BP CEO? He always has this evil smirk on his face at the most inappropriate times. ???

Will look good for Obama when he is down there tomorrow

AND...

They release the oil spill rate after the kill?

But... he said “plug the damn hole” and it’s now plugged.

What do you mean he’s done nothing?

If you listen carefully, he said..
"Plug The Damn Ho"

Could be an entirely different thing.

With O-Bo you never know.

Per Fox Business, the White House is saying the announcement is premature. Whether it is or not, I bet they want to orchestrate it so Obama gets to make the announcement.

I thought BP tried every possible solution and I was rooting for them the whole way - mostly because I am shareholder in their stock (and have been getting crushed with it).
I truely believe zerO was doing nothing to show the country why drilling could be devastating to the environment

Right, who are you going to believe, the Obama White House or your lying eyes?

As long as you only see mud, it's working.

Actual engineering takes time - BP has accomplished this very rapidly.

I know that it is all in vogue to believe that any problem can be solved in 42 minutes or less plus commercials. People need to step away from their TVs and computers more and do something with their hands and backs occasionally.

A simple suggestion - rebuild the engine and transmission of your car, then pick up a used commercial freezer unit and rebuild it. I won’t even suggest that you attempt to do them 5000 feet away from your location, and that they first be placed inside a pressure vessel with 2100 psi. or even under water.

Why didn’t this get done sooner? Anyone who doesn’t understand that should still be in a highchair.

Wow, at least this proves that we have huge mega amounts of oil so we should not have to live under oppressive oil rates because of low crude supply rates.

” A former Shell Oil exec has been saying they could have had tankers out there capturing this oil 30 days ago. “

Isn’t just amazing how all of these ‘experts’ (or, more accurately, *former* ‘experts’)with no ‘skin in the game’ can be so glib with their ‘all-ya-gotta-do’ solutions??

;)

They probably didn’t go because they didn’t want pictures of him standing there incompetently with the oil still spewing. Now they can have a victory picture all while forgetting the damage that is still occuring.

His response has already been more regulation and more drilling freezes.

No, peak oil is a myth. So consequently your question is not relevant.

You obviously don’t understand how things are supposed to work in situations such as this.

Basically it’s supposed to go like this. The operator, in this case BP, is responsible for stopping the inflow of oil to the gulf and the fedgov is responsible for cleaning up what has already gotten into the water.
