Former Congressman Vito Fosella held a news conference today to announce that he will not seek election to his old congressional seat.
The issue came up after the Staten Island Republican Party recently bypassed two candidates seeking the job and endorsed Fosella to run.
Fosella was a six-term congressman until he stepped down in 2008 amid a drunk driving and personal scandal involving a secret family had in Virginia.
He says he was honored to be asked to run, but is happy with where he is now.
"I'm frankly at a very good place in my life, he said. I'm where I need to be, and where I want to be, most importantly, and, as a result, have indicated to the chairman of the party that I will not seek election to Congress this year."
Fossella would not rule out running for public office sometime in the future.
The congressional seat is currently held by Democrat Michael McMahon.
“The Staten Island Republican Party needs new leadership, IMHO.”
Or new brains.
Where is this good place he talks about ? Has he moved with some of his families to Colorado City ?
Panama? Maybe New Zealand? It’s probably easier to run a business in Russia than it will be here in the next couple years, so it really could be anywhere.
This is good news.
Now the GOP has a chance to beat McMahon in spite of itself.
Two people, possibly both conservative AND qualified, wanted the nomination, but they hadn’t provided any favors for the party bosses. So the republican party turns to a drunk and —what, a bigamist maybe?? Sound like close friends of Steele, don’t they!
Did the so-called leadership ask him first before making an endorsement? Or Fossella who got enlightened this past 2-3 days?
Former Congressman Vito Fosella... after the Staten Island Republican Party recently bypassed two candidates seeking the job and endorsed Fosella... a six-term congressman until he stepped down in 2008 amid a drunk driving and personal scandal involving a secret family [he] had in Virginia... The congressional seat is currently held by Democrat Michael McMahon.
Buh Bye Vito....don’t let the door hit you a$$ on the way out. As a Staten Islander and a Republican, I refuse to vote for a candidate who knowingly drives drunk.
