CNN anchor Kyra Phillips had to apologize earlier today for some music containing the n-word that the network aired heading into a commercial.
Highlighting a piece about a 103-year-old Pennsylvania woman who's still out driving her Coupe deVille, CNN used Coolio's "Fantastic Voyage" for a bumper into the break. The lyrics in question can be found in the first verse (at 1:14):
Phillips' apology came about 20 minutes later:
We aired some music a few minutes ago, and, obviously for those of you that heard it, it was the wrong music that aired. We apologize for that. It was a terrible mistake. And we're working very hard to make up for it. No word on if CNN was unable to clear the rights to Warren G and Nate Dogg's "Regulate."

It is simply a slang term used to describe Caucasians, and we don’t assign any negative connotations to it. In fact, the mask communicates that looking this way will keep you above suspicion of being an illegal immigrant in Arizona, a positive thing not a derogatory one. We hope everyone will view the mask the way we do...a comical tool to convey a message and raise awareness about an issue that is important to all Americans. If the campaign has been taken in a different light by some, we sincerely regret the misunderstanding.

In any case, the woman who apologized certainly had nothing to do with the music that was played.
Wow, I thought for sure that CNN would have qualified for the “OK-for-blacks-to-say-it” exemption.
Didn’t CNN run a special called: BLACK IN AMERICA ? They may have to re-run it.
The apology was probably something from the legal department to avoid a libel lawsuit over any possible association with the sung lyric and the woman profiled.
Caucasian is a racist junk science term for white people. The rest of the world knows it is bogus to continue using it.
