Now we are apologizing when a black man uses the term...
At least they didn’t call her a ho!
What a hypocrite she is!
Don’t worry! You’re a democrat so you’re excused. Cheney was probably responsible because he owned stock in the record label that uttered that terrible word! Eeeevil Cheney! s/
Sounds like the 7-11 down the street ...
Everyone is a racist now! Did any of you see the new racist “Gringo” masks for sale by some Latino protest group? http://www.gringomask.com
They’ve shut down the website with this message:
“Thanks to your involvement, the GringoMask has achieved its primary objective to raise awareness of the potential for racial profiling by enforcement of Arizona SB 1070. GringoMask was not a commercial product or intended to be a long term project, but a piece of satire to promote discussion and thought.
In addition to raising awareness, the mask was used to promote dialogue between people of different opinions in the hopes of arriving at better solutions than SB 1070, and to show solidarity with Americans of every race and color across the country that found this law unfair in its targeting of a specific ethnic group even if only implicitly. We chose this mask because of its light-hearted nature and tongue-in-cheek approach much in the same vein as Jeff Foxworthy’s shtick “You Might be a Redneck” or Carlos Mencia’s “beaner” jokes. However, we in no way meant to offend anyone.
We understand from your responses that some people might equate the word “Gringo” with an ethnic slur. We do not. It is simply a slang term used to describe Caucasians, and we don’t assign any negative connotations to it. In fact, the mask communicates that looking this way will keep you above suspicion of being an illegal immigrant in Arizona, a positive thing not a derogatory one. We hope everyone will view the mask the way we do...a comical tool to convey a message and raise awareness about an issue that is important to all Americans. If the campaign has been taken in a different light by some, we sincerely regret the misunderstanding.
Thanks for voicing your opinions and helping to get the dialogue going.
We look forward to a better solution to the illegal immigration problem.”
I haven’t watched CNN for a while, but I do not believe that woman is Kyra Phillips!
In any case, the woman who apologized certainly had nothing to do with the music that was played.
Wow, I thought for sure that CNN would have qualified for the “OK-for-blacks-to-say-it” exemption.
Until we see a “White Caucus” formed, I don’t give a crap who uses what words and who apologies for such.
I have no guilt whatsoever and I won’t play victim either!
End of rant.
‘it was the wrong music that aired’
That makes an apology?
Oh, please! How absolutely pathetic. Just shoot yourself, Kyra, because you’ve obviously got no self respect.
The perils of political correctness.
the word “nigger” can be used in what some would call music, and that music can be played on the news.
But normal people can not speak the word.
That was a ‘shout out’ to a 103 year old black woman! And CNN wonders why their ratings are in the toilet. (right where they belong)
I use asterisks for the sensitive who read posts, but TV Land did not bleep it at all -- Sherman Helmsley says it bold as brass on the show, laughing from the audience, no stunned gasps ... but from me, I was stunned!! Not at the use of the word, but that it wasn't bleeped out!!
Kyra should have said it was old news footage or something, apparently there is a time-element to allowing that word to be broadcast over the airwaves.
The newscaster involved here is NOT Kyra Phillips!
Please change the title of the thread, and take out any mention of her. I tried to tell the posters here earlier, but people still seem to want her involved in these posts.
This topic is trouble, and I do not think ANYONE should get their name dragged into a topic just because they were misidentified by a viewer.
Although something with “whitey” or “cracker” wouldn’t have raised an eyebrow at CNN. Are we to totally eliminate the N-word from the vernacular as if it were never part of the language? Is it only blacks who are allowed to utter it? If so, how does that erase it from the public conscience?
Or is it just whites who are supposed to have a conscience?
