Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal finally apologized for having lied about his Vietnam-era military service. Well, sort of.
He e-mailed a Hartford newspaper expressing "regret [for] offending anyone."
And then, only after the paper asked the Democratic US Senate candidate flat-out whether he intended to apologize.
The New York Times last week disclosed that Blumenthal has often claimed to have served in Vietnam when, in fact, he received five deferments, then enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves for stateside service.
In his e-mail to the Hartford Courant, Blumenthal -- who over the weekend accepted the Democratic nomination to succeed Sen. Chris Dodd -- said: "I have not been as clear or precise as I should have been about my service."
Pathetic. But it's no surprise that Blumenthal's "apology" came via e-mail, in the middle of the night.

He clearly said he was in Vietnam, when he was not. That's as precise a LIE as you can get!
He cannot apologize. He’s an egomaniac. That’s why he’s in politics.
Anyone else get the feeling that he doesn’t want to be asked and doesn’t want to tell, if you know what I mean? (I’m not talking about this Vietnam service)
Blumenthal had a momentary lapse of reason...quite a few of them
That's the closest Democrats ever come to an apology - expressing "regret if anyone was offended." In others words, "I'm sorry if you people are too stupid to realize that you took my remarks the wrong way."
Another lying wannabe. He should be tarred and feathered. I can help.
RVN 1969-70 and the paper to prove it.
