HARTFORD, Conn. – Criticized for saying he "regrets" misstatements he made about his military service during the Vietnam War, Connecticut Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal is now apologizing.
On Monday and late the night before, the Democrat told various media outlets that he made mistakes and is sorry for them.
"I think he wants to put this behind him. He wants to start getting back to talking about the issues that matter most to the people of Connecticut and start talking about who is going to best represent the people of Connecticut in Washington," said Maura Downes, a campaign spokeswoman.
The state's commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., Richard G. DiFederico, had issued a statement Friday demanding an apology from Blumenthal.

“This is where the stolen valor comes in. I have heard what Blumenthal has done been described as a “victimless crime”. But I disagree. Whenever anyone claims military service they did not perform or claims military honors they did not earn, it is a counterfeit. They are borrowing valor they have never earned from those who have. They steal the reputation of men braver than themselves. “
He is a liar and a thief. Apology is not acceptable.
But President Bush said what every intelligence report in the world was saying about Iraq, and he's called a liar.........for 8 years.
The double standard and lack of ethics is breathtaking.

And when it's our troops who served their country with honor who are taking it on the chin, it's nothing short of despicable.

There must be a Weasel’s Handbook somewhere, because these guys all read from the same script. They always want to “put this behind them” and “move on” and “get back to talking about the real issues”. Barf.
This guy is a monster, but do CT voters care?
All I want to know is if this story significantly sinking him or not?
If it is, and it’s bad enough, how long before the rats pull him out and put somebody else in? I’m expecting him to step down for “family reasons” any day if the rats put enough pressure on him to get out of the way so they can run someone who can hang onto the seat.
It occurs to me that you don’t have to apologize for lies if you don’t lie.
