Stansberry: Detroit's socialist nightmare is America's future

DETROIT'S SOCIALIST NIGHTMARE IS AMERICA'S FUTURE!

One of the most important things to remember about socialism – or coercion of any kind – is it fails eventually because human beings have an innate desire for liberty and a strong need for personal property rights. In fact, the origins of government lie in the need of agricultural communities to protect themselves from violence and theft. So it is particularly ironic that in more recent times, it is government itself that has more frequently played the role of bandit. When you start taxing people at extreme rates to pay for socialist "benefits," when you start telling them which schools their children must attend, when you start giving jobs away to people based on race instead of ability... you quash human freedom, which bogs down productivity... and if continued for long enough, leads to social collapse.

I find it perplexing that only 20 years after the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the West continues to implement laws that mimic all of the failed policies of our former "communist" foes. In fact, our current president won the election by promising to "spread the wealth around." But... truth be told... we don't have to look to Eastern Europe or the Soviet Union to find a society destroyed by coercion, socialism, and the overreaching power of the State. We could just look at Detroit...

The likelihood America will become a giant Detroit is growing – rapidly. Politicians now control the banking sector, most of the manufacturing sector (including autos), a large amount of media, and are threatening to take over health care and the production of electricity (via cap and trade rules). These are the biggest threats to wealth in the history of our country.

"I knew when I wrote the piece about Detroit I would be accused of racism by lots of readers. I could have ignored race in my telling of the history, but ignoring race wouldn't have changed any of the facts. And the truth is that race matters in Detroit politics. The truth is, race has played a major and complex role in Democratic policies over the last 40 years - particularly in urban areas. For many ambitious, talented, and intelligent black men and women, the civil rights movement led to a career in politics. This generation of black politicians (who are nearly all Democrats) has an overwhelming belief in the power of the government to improve people's lives. They believe this because the civil rights movement was so successful.

Unfortunately, these men and women don't understand the many negative consequences when the government moves from granting equal rights to manufacturing equal outcomes. These black Democratic politicians have held on to power - despite the disastrous outcomes of their policies - largely because they have continued to promise their mostly black constituents they can deliver more benefits from government. These promises come with a racial undertone because their constituents know very well who will pay for these government programs: rich white people.

On the other hand, there are numerous leading black intellectuals - like Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell - who have stopped to ask the obvious question: Has the expanded role of government helped the black community or hurt it? These men, however, are not Democratic politicians. They do not run for office with the explicit promise of using the government to redistribute wealth. And unfortunately, neither of them is currently the president of the United States.

As anyone who knows me would tell you, I am not a racist. And I am not prejudiced. But I simply won't pretend race has not played a major role in urban politics, even though pointing out these facts is uncomfortable and puts me in jeopardy of being called a bigot.

Finally... 90% of the time I would agree with you that there is no difference between the two major political parties. But I don't think this is true when it comes to race. The Republican Party is not only the party of Lincoln, its policies are, to a much greater extent than the Democrats, blind to race. The Republican Party has consistently opposed affirmative action and other racially motivated government policies. For this reason, lots of folks consider Republicans to be anti-black. I think the opposite is true. I believe the way Democrats pander to racial interests is the real bigotry.

And I think what the government has done to black communities - largely at the insistence of black Democratic politicians - over the last 40 years is a horrendous crime. At some point - and I think it's happening right now in the current mayoral election in Atlanta - the black community is going to turn the tables on the black Democratic leadership. I think we'll see a time when it is the black caucus that's the most libertarian. They've certainly suffered the most under big government.

Discussing these ideas - and having the freedom to write about them without knee-jerk accusations of racism - is critical to a better understanding of politics in the United States. I hope you'll reconsider my points and your evaluation of my character." Porter Stansberry

I believe Wash. DC beat Detroit to it by decades

“On the other hand, there are numerous leading black intellectuals - like Walter Williams and Thomas Sowell - who have stopped to ask the obvious question: Has the expanded role of government helped the black community or hurt it?”

I’ve asked similar questions to my liberal pals . . .why then, is the inner city still the inner city? . . . stumps them every time

Racism is nothing but a red herring dragged across our path by the Communists who euphemistically call themselves Liberals.

The real social and economic problem of American racism was dealt with and to a great extent ameliorated in the decades of the sixties and seventies.

What remains today is race baiters and people who cannot discuss an issue and so they run and hide behind the accusation of “Racism!”.

Michigan also has a really hated governor (whose time is up this year) Granholm who says she can run for POTUS with her dual citizenship. Citizens there say Granholm never created a job but never found one she could not destroy. She is a ObamaBot lap dog in every way.

Welfare states always beg forever. They are the first to riot when anything goes wrong. The first to blame the gvmt when it was local governments problem. Instead of helping out during a crisis they loot, rob and burn things down. I don’t care what color of skin they have. If they feel entitled they get angry when the gravy train stops or their lives are harmed.

Let them call me racist. Being Racist new definition is opposition to marxism.

Well stated. Not being able to debate the issues goes beyond cries of "racism". When a liberal cannot discuss or debate an issue, they smear the opposition. Liberalism is intellectually defunct.

I agree with the latter...but not with the former. Some people have an innate desire for liberty and for independence...some are individualists, but I do not necessarily think that even a majority do. Socialism largely fails not because of this Hollywood-ish desire for "Freedom!" but because as an economic system it entirely removes the rewards for hard labor, ingenuity and chance-taking...something that is absolutely necessary for success in any human endeavor. Socialism is merely a means to restore feudalism and to impose caste systems that protect the politically powerful.

The article states the obvious, the poor were the major losers in the War on Poverty. They continue to lose today thanks to the Democrat machine politicians who get to decide winners and losers and award the winners with taxpayer dollars. The politicians who choose the winners are black. The winners are black, but that’s where racial equality ends, because the winners are the hand picked political elite in the black community. The rest get nothing, except a $20 bill on election day.

Almost every major city in American today is a Detroit in progress, and all are devoted supporters of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. Expect the misery to continue.

Agreed with one change. Its the cities that are the problem. Only a handfull of our 83 counties consistently vote democrat and every one of them is a ghetto hellhole or a college town. The rest of us would be thrilled to cut off the gravy train that sends that money to the cities.

I want to keep my money and decide for myself what I want to fund.

I’m from Michigan & was a claims adjuster for 24 years. It was well known that people in the Detroit/Flint area would rather live on the automobile accident wages than work as it paid more than they were making. Living just north of Detroit I always thought that they should just put a fence around it & plow it over. Looks like they are coming to the same conclusion as I hear they want to plow over alot of homes. As long as the Unions/Democrats control Michigan there will be no improvement. Until Unions are considered illegal there is no hope.

You are right. That was a huge mistake to lump everyone in a state. Heck I live in Kallleefornia. Welfare illegals and dems scurry like little rats everywhere here.

We have a friend who lives in Michigan and he likes it. I just don’t remember where in Michigan.

What dual citizenship does Granholm hold?

Where was she born?

Does she think that the Kenyan sets the example?

“Racism is nothing but a red herring dragged across our path by the Communists who euphemistically call themselves Liberals.”

I guess that’s how the name ‘Red herring’ came about! The Left loves to hijack words because they are control freaks who love to control the conversation. Who ever controls the conversation controls history. Liberals love liberty but Leftists do not. To be gay is to be happy but homosexuals just the antithesis of happy. Blue states are really Red because they are majority Leftists with which the color red has always been associated with.

If the people on the Right don’t start controlling the conversation at the national level in their favor the Right will never win.

“Up from the ashes come the roses of success!”

The Marxist/Communist bring about the ashes.

That is the Marxist/Communist lie. There is no success.

She is Canadian. When she was asked what she might do next after her term is up, whoever it was interviewing her said she can’t run for potus. She said something like come on, I have been here since I was 4. I have dual citizenship.

Obnoxious person.

Yeah I love it here but I live in a metropolis of about 150 people. I think we’re going to see some big changes in the next election. My district will likely return to GOP hands and the 1st district looks good for the GOP too. The governors race will probably land in GOP hands as well.

Detroit is a failed 3rd world nation state all by itself. Dave Bing was a decent choice for a democrat mayor but no one man can clean up that mess.

If she really said that, it is seditious.
