Sounds suspicious...but just MAY be a nut.

I'd like to know what the surviving witness has to say.

This may be the most posted story in FR history (not that I’ve been here that long).

A Barstow, CA, police officer also “showed” a gun to a Obama worker when she came to the door happened early this week. Story got buried quickly.

She probably wasn’t a democrat, anyway. Now she won’t get counted. How about the guy? Anyway, no surprises here. Point a gun at police and you get shot. Suicide by cop.

I figure you've got a 50/50 chance of encountering a genuine Census worker. Half the time, he'll be a psycho impostor Obama employee/rapist. The other half of the time, he'll be a genuine psycho Obama employee/voter/rapist.

I have had a census worker come to my door twice now.

First time was to ask if anyone was living next door. Now I know what is going on over there... the owner is in Iraq, and the wife is back east helping a very very ill family member. There has been no one home there in many months. Certainly there was no one there in March, or April. So I honestly tell the worker that no one was living there, with out saying anything else. Its none of his freakin business.

OK so that’s the end of that thinks I.

Then earlier this week he shows up again... asking if I will sign a statement, a proxy, for the homeowner saying no one was living there. I smile sweetly and ask him to elaborate. He does, and with my best cheery smile I say... “No”. He then proceeds to more or less ask me to do it again, and then a third time. I say “No” each time with my best smile. He starts to ask AGAIN and I interrupt him, because he isn’t taking “no” for an answer. I say, look, I am not constitutionally required to tell you anything about my neighbors, and I am not going to. You can go do some research and find the information for yourself and attempt to contact the owners, as that is public information... and he tells me he can’t do that. OK whatever. No, I am not signing a proxy or anything else, have a nice day. I shut the door and immediately lock it loudly.

If I see him again, I will do so armed and clearly state that if he does not get off my property inside the next two seconds I am calling the police.

Like I am gonna rat out my neighbor to make his job easier. NOPE.

Cops will rather shoot dead a home owner than back down and just walk away (from all the various threads posted here that could have been an option IMO - “OK m’am, take it easy, we’re getting off your property right now...” - would she have shot at them then?).

The hallmark of a police state.

Hey, I live in Yuba City! That happened about 5 miles from my home (we are on opposite ends of town.) This isn’t a very liberal town, and is positively Right Wing by California standards.

Scary story. Not how I would deal with a census worker. A guy in a blue shirt rang my bell yesterday. I looked through the peephole and decided not to answer in case he was a census worker.

It is usually a good idea to put down a gun when the police tell you to.

That said, this was 100% the fault of both the census worker and the police. The census worker was trespassing. The census worker was told to leave the property owner’s property and dis-respectfully did not do that. The property owner brandished a weapon, which is probably a crime today but it should not be when you are being accosted by a persistent trespasser.

Yuba City cops are pretty tame, so I don’t know how this got out of hand except that maybe the cops should not have been there. They should have told the census worker, don’t trespass next time. If people don’t want to cooperate, just let them take the fine. Let someone above you handle it.

Not today. Not in what is becoming a totalitarian state. Not today. Today, the property owner minding his own business is the bad guy, and the person guilty of criminal trespass is innocent.
