Richard Blumenthal's "Rolling Blunder" -- It's Apocalypse Now for a Politician

Connecticut's Democratic Attorney General Richard Blumenthal is taking heavy fire for a series of statements he made over several years in which he either explicitly or implicitly claimed to be a Vietnam veteran, when in fact he is not. His defense is that he misspoke - using the word "in" instead of "during" the war, according to a spokesman. ... The scandal doesn't depend on what the meaning of the word "in" is....
Mr. Blumenthal's foibles may not be as egregious as Iowa Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin's references to mythical combat air patrols over Vietnam, or the phantom sniper fire Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton claimed to have encountered in Tuzla, Bosnia. But in both of those cases, at least the people involved actually set foot in the countries in question. Vietnam veterans who served in combat say they "saw the elephant." The only elephant Mr. Blumenthal saw during his service would have been at the National Zoo.

Vietnam veterans who served in combat say they "saw the elephant." Most people who use that phrase have no idea what it exactly means.

When he says he “ran into Charlie in the Rice Paddy” he was talking about his waiter at a nearby Chinese restaurant.

He will get a cushy ambassadorship. BO:

He will spend much more time defending his indefensible statements than he will be able to discuss the issues. The Democrat Convention starts tomorrow. They will be scurrying around like the RATs they are wondering who to support. It will be very interesting.
We Connecticut Tea Party members will follow him to every public function in the state should he get the nomination.

I like how he was so indignant that a "few misplaced words" would "impugn [his] service to our country."
Would he have been able to achieve his level of public service had he not lied about his military record in the first place?
Is his "service to our country" tainted fruit?

I'm not sure if this is going to blow up for Chuck DeVore, too, similar to Richard Blumenthal. Sarah Palin endorsed Carly Fiorina in this race, in California, but I'm not sure if she knew about some of these problems or not. This just came out now and Sarah Palin may not have known this when she did the endorsement of Carly Fiorina.

When Blumenthal said “Charlie don’t surf.”
He was talking about a friend named Charlie from Cape Cod who he thought did not surf.
