Beware Rand Paul and Sarah Palin [Finally their fear shows it's real face]
The Progressive ^ | May 20, 2010 | Matthew Rothschild, Editor

I’m worried about Rand Paul, Sarah Palin, and the tea party movement.

Rand Paul was correct in his victory speech: His victory was a victory for that movement, and it’s not going away.

It’s also larger than a lot of progressives want to believe.

And those progressives who cheer the takeover of the Republican Party by the tea partiers, seeing in it a recipe for electoral victory for Democrats in 2012, may be making a tragic error.

Rand Paul wasn’t the only tea party candidate who won on Thursday. Sarah Palin was also victorious. She endorsed Rand Paul early, and shrewdly invested in the race.

After Paul’s victory, it’s more likely than ever that Sarah Palin will be the nominee in 2012. And then anything can happen. Including her winning the White House.

Especially after the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United, which will let corporate America pour billions into the election.

Rand Paul foreshadowed one ad that these corporate dollars are likely to buy: an ad that claims Obama is betraying America. “We now have,” Paul said, “a President who apologizes for America’s greatness.”

Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity, Mitt Romney, Liz Cheney, and Palin herself have uttered similar slurs against Obama.

This tag, more than health care, more than the deficit, may be what ultimately costs Obama.

So don’t take comfort in the craziness of Rand Paul, or the zaniness of Sarah Palin.

Watch out for them.

The Tea Party could have gotten rid of Perry in Texas, but the Tea Party’s candidate of choice, choked on a Glenn Beck interview and refused to say that she did NOT believe in the conspiracy theory about 9/11.

That left Perry and Hutchison. We had a novice for our candidate and now, we’re stuck with Governor Good-hair for another 4 years.

And, BTW, if you enter Mexico illegally, it's 5 years in prison.

You think that's good, do you?

There may come a time (pray it never comes, but it could) when certain conservatives will want to seek refuge in a neighboring country. Will they be welcome in Mexico if they don't know the native language? I kinda doubt it.

Even so, five years rotting in a Mexican jail is a notch or two better than death in this country, isn't it?

I am a patriot and the lie-bertarian beliefs are way too shallow for me. And I think they are a danger to this country and what we stand for, with their isolationist position and general desire for liberty without responsibility.

I am worried by their anti-Semitism, which in my view is profoundly un-American,

as well as their weak approach to immigration law

and support for abortion.

So -- I'm not Anti-Semitic; I'm pro-Border Security; and I'm Pro-Life.

How would you categorize me?

I pray that before that day comes that there will come a Revolution in this nation first. I’d rather stand on this soil and fight, than run and hide out in a foreign land. God knows that I mean that with all my heart.

They've been wrong from the start. Why mess with a streak?

the Tea Party’s candidate of choice

Medina wasn't the Tea Party candidate of choice.

She merely CLAIMED to be.

Big difference.
