Obama Says Admin. Taking ‘Very Close Look’ at AZ’s Immigration Law for Civil Rights ‘Implications’

(CNSNews.com) - President Barack Obama said his administration is taking a “very close look” at Arizona’s new anti-illegal immigration law, examining it for any “implications, especially for civil rights.”

“I want everyone, American and Mexican, to know my administration is taking a very close look at the Arizona law,” said President Obama during a press conference on Wednesday with Mexican President Felipe Calderon.

“We're examining any implications, especially for civil rights,” said Obama. “Because in the United States of America, no law-abiding person – be they an American citizen, a legal immigrant, or a visitor or tourist from Mexico – should ever be subject to suspicion simply because of what they look like.”

Several top administration officials, who have criticized the law on television and before Congress, admitted they have not either read the law or studied it in detail.

For example, on May 17, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano, former governor of Arizona, about the law during a hearing about the Gulf Coast oil spill, saying, “Have you had a chance to review the new law that was passed by the state of Arizona?”

“I have not reviewed it in detail, I certainly know of it, senator,” said Napolitano.

Napolitano also said, “That’s not the kind of law I would have signed.”

On May 13, Attorney General Eric Holder said he had not “read” the law but went on to criticize it. He told the House Judiciary Committee that he had "expressed concerns" about the Arizona law, "on the basis of what I've heard about the law" from newspaper and TV reports.

Holder has also questioned the constitutionality of the law and has said the federal government may challenge it in court.

"I've just expressed concerns on the basis of what I've heard about the law,” Holder told the House Judiciary Committee. “But I'm not in a position to say at this point, not having read the law, not having had the chance to interact with people [who] are doing the review, exactly what my position is.” Phillip J. Crowley, assistant secretary for public affairs in the State Department, also admitted that he has not read the law.

“Have I read the law? No,” he said on May 18.

“You’re talking about the context of this law and you haven’t read it?” asked the Fox News reporter.

“I’m simply responding to a challenge that says that we at the Department of State were apologizing for America,” said Crowley. “We were actually standing up to America by saying this is how we function in a civil society. This is how we function under the rule of law.”

Crowley was defending Michael Posner, the assistant secretary of the Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights and Labor at the State Department, for telling the Chinese Delegation during a meeting about human rights that the Arizona immigration law is an example of a “troubling trend in our society” and an indication of “discrimination or potential discrimination” in America.

The law itself may be constitutional, but the enforcement of the law isn’t.

Let us hope so.

But where the rubber will really meet the road, is what Arizona does when the Wise Latina and Jewish Lesbian Supreme Court says NO.

Is Zer0 talking about the millions of foreign nationals from Mexico in Arizona here or the ones back in the home country?

So, we have a sitting president who is going to actively encourage the Department of Justice to seek ways to thwart standing laws?

Hugo Chavez and Fidel Castro must both be very proud of their little protege’

I really hope they try somehow to strike it down. With %70 of the nation for it, it would be politically disastrous.

Obama has already created a political disaster for his party by publicly opposing the new Arizona law.

Every time he opens his yap about this issue, millions of Americans hear him and realize that he doesn't speak for them, but for the illegals who are destroying their jobs, their towns, their cities, and states.

No normal politician would stand athwart such an overwhelming tide of public opinion, but Obama isn't a politician - he's an oligarch. It matters not to him what we peasants think. He will rule as he pleases. Just like every dictator.

I hope that Americans take note of Obama's performance in this debacle, and realize that he is not just a committed ideologue, but considers himself to be some sort of lord and master, above our laws and our Constitution.

Are you quoting the Democrat treason points, or is this your own opinion?

So the federal government denounces and investigates a state for enforcing and upholding federal law, while a Mexican stooge for Obama parrots the same BS the leftists are all bleating. And of course, this is all about the left desperately needing and trying to get the votes from Mexicans, whether legal or illegal, in the US.

Rush said this is the kind of thing that starts civil wars. He’s right, of course, but that has never stopped the left from squealing and calling those of us on the right racists and inciters. I’m just waiting for the ‘Rush Roast’ to begin by rabid lefties and avowed commies/Marxists.

Truth is.. it is Obama that is inciting civil war and violence and he’s doing it blatently and in our faces. Problem is....mainstream/lamestream media will never report that fact, so most Americans aren’t even aware of what’s going on.

And yes, Calderone has to be the stupidest Mexican on the planet, since his answers to Wolf Blitzer’s questions proved him to be a flaming hypocrite... and a complete dunce because he was so stupid he didn’t even realize he had just outted himself as the hypocrite puppet of Obama and leftists everywhere.

How can a law be constitutional but the enforcement of that same law not be constitutional? You are illogical. (I smell a leftie)

Riddle me this. How is it that the very same opponents of the AZ law enforcement, claiming that it's unconstitutional..... are perfectly ok/fine with the blatantly unconstitutional law mandating that Americans (except for Muslimes and illegals) must purchase health insurance? Care to take a stab at explaining that?

Phillip J. Crowley, assistant secretary for public affairs in the State Department

“I’m simply responding to a challenge that says that we at the Department of State were apologizing for America,” said Crowley. “We were actually standing up to America by saying this is how we function in a civil society. This is how we function under the rule of law.”

I see. So you, a government employee are saying that you are "standing up" against your employers, the Citizens of the united States of America, to force them to NOT enforce a legally passed law, that mirrors the same exact existing federal law, which the current administration, which YOU are a part of, refuses to enforce.

This is what the current administration believes is "function(ing) under the rule of law.”

?

We may as well just get ready for the demonstrations and the accusations of “racist” that will be the only retort from the communist regime that comprises the current administration in Washington, DC. They are far too stupid to come up with any other excuse for getting their “collective” butts kicked out in 2012.

Given the current level of outright contempt for the real “rule of law” I am actually beginning the think the communists in D.C. just might not make it the full four years.

The Citizens of the united States are PIZZED off right now, it is obvious President Hussein is totally incompetent, he has surrounded himself with the scum of government from across the united States and has every intention of shoving communism down the throats of American Citizens.

I can well imagine what President Hussein will attempt when his control of government is removed in the 2010 election. If he attempts to “rule” by decree his chances of remaining in office could become nearly the same as his nickname.

Sure, see, since the Constitution is a flexible document that can adapt chameleon-like to the will of the social elite, and since the first amendment gives muslims and illegals the right to associate AND protects their religious freedom, it is unconstitutional to require them to pay for health insurance—you and I however, being FReepers, have no such rights, and therefore the mandate applies, even to the point where the federal govenment will have real time access to our business and personal accounts.

(I’m channeling Eric Holder again)

Democratic treason points-—

Holder will argue “anticipatory unlawful enforcement” because the law has not been enforced yet (and can’t be until it becomes effective in another 60 days or so.)

I can’t believe I’m actually agreeing with the Kenyan! He actually got it right. Illegal aliens are NOT law-abiding citizens, and they deserve nothing.
