It's probably no surprise that Sir Paul McCartney, a longtime vegetarian, banned all meat from staff meals on his current world tour. But when Mario Batali starts to push people to eat their vegetables, you know something is happening.

I am guessing he didn’t consult his father who runs a store that makes artisan cured meats.

Ever tried possum?
At a county fair in Arkansas years ago. As I remember it was in chili, so not sure what it really tastes like. I do remember it was greasy.

I have no problem if people don't want to eat meat.....I have two vegetarians among my inlaws....try fixing Thanksgiving dinner with vegetarians...
oh,they'll always tell you not to make anything special for them, but you end up making extra dishes so they can have plenty to eat...well, so be it....
but as Julia Child always said, you have got to have FAT to give things taste....so not having at least a base of a meat for a meal, can make for a very dreary meal unless you use lots of BUTTER or OIL.....
she was also one to use real cream....Ina Gartner is the same way....you need the basic fats for good favor..
maybe the problem is just that we Americans eat too much meat....

My mother and step-father stopped by a friends house once when I was around 10 years old. The friend was eating dinner at the time we arrived (they went in, we kids stayed in the car - they were there just to drop something off). When my parents came out they quickly spit something out of their mouths onto the grass. Turned out to be possum - apparently didn't agree with their palate.

a lot of these celebrity cooks are raging liberals or turn into them once they make it "big"..like Batalia.....one reason I seldom watch the Food channel anymore, except for one or two...
public tv has better cooking shows...nothing beats Lydia for authentic..

Great story.
I haven’t eaten squirrel (or rabbit for that matter) in decades, but if TSHTF I would think a hind-quarter or 2 over a bowl of steaming hot rice with some soy sauce would be heavenly.
Hope it never gets to that.

Julia Child also used to say that if you didn’t eat butter, that you would have poor health and flaky skin. She did live into her nineties...

LOL, where’s your sense of humor. They’re coming out with meatless Monday. For years there was meatless Friday. It was both a Catholic thing and it was a war effort thing during WWII. So the libs didn’t invent it even though they think they did.

Mario Batali is a big time liberal who used to complain about GWB all the time. I always wanted to ask him if he hated the wealth he acquired under the reign of GWB. Or if he “gave back” all of those ill-gotten gains.
