TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Fire officials say one person is dead in a shooting at an entrance gate to MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla.
Tampa Fire Rescue officials say they were called to the gate at 6:47 p.m. on Wednesday.

Main Dale Mabry Gate. AFB is on lockdown.
Generally they won’t shoot you for simply not stopping at the gate. That will get you arrested. Been through that gate a number of times and they really wouldn’t have time except to shoot at your fleeing car from behind. They do have some other stuff to stop cars or trucks and wouldn’t need to shoot.
My guess there had to be a threat.

Last month, the Dale Mabry Highway entrance to MacDill Air Force Base was closed for several hours after a car damaged the gate when the driver tried to enter the base without authorization.
A Dodge Intrepid approached the gate at about 12:45 a.m. April 19. Security personnel believed the driver was impaired and asked him to turn off the ignition. Instead, he reversed, striking a car behind the Dodge, and then continued through the gate.
Security barriers stopped the Dodge, and the four occupants were detained.

I was in when they first came up with those pop-up barriers. Trouble is some of the senior officers didn’t feel like they really needed to stop.
One Col failed to show his badge and ended up with his mercedes suspended on top of one those barriers.
Update to the story, sounds like some kind of domestic or maybe suicide by cop.

So there was an “a dispute” then a motorcycle ride, evading the base guards, a knife.. then Boom.. he’s dead by the FBI...
How might Obama say this? somebody “acted foolishly”?
Just teasing.. I just thot he was a gunman shooting at our troops at first, but it seems the FBI has the terrorist under control now.

That’s not funny. It’s been a long time since I’ve been there (grew up in Tampa), but there were nukes there when B-47’s and B-52’s were there. It was SAC back then.
My dad drove a Pepsi truck and we had to fill the machines three times a week, sometimes everyday. The airmen were the sloppiest guys I’ve ever seen. Made my decision to be a Marine that much easier.
