Capt. Stan Gragg said police had no reason to believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the incident, and did not have cause to test McDonald. He also said there was no indication a cell phone was being used at the time of the wreck

It was the brakes! No, sorry. That was a Toyota.
Is FORD still Fix or Repair Daily!
FORD was the only major not to take the bailout though.
No alcohol or drugs, no cell phone use, (I’m guessing) no wet/slippery street, no mechanical problems. How fast was he going again? Coming up on that ‘red’ light.
This is a real head scratcher. There has to be more to it then what is being reported.
Huh?
Red light. Failure to stop. Dead people.
No big deal?
Accidentally killing people isn’t necessarily criminal, but but in civil court, he will be found grossly negligent and he will pay a huge financial penalty, it would seem to me.
I ride a motorcycle and these sorts of drivers are my primary concern. I’ve heard of too many incidents where bikers are killed stopped in traffic at a red light. Seems there’s never a time when riding not to feel invisible and vulnerable and need eyes in the back of your head.
I check my mirrors regularly when stopped at a light, particularly when there is no vehicle behind me; I try to maintain space for evasion ahead; and I always idle in low, never neutral.
Isn’t killing two people in a car wreck probable cause for D&A testing???????
Sound like their police dept doesn’t like motorcyclist very well? Lets see what happen when one of their motorcycle cops gets involved in one of these “accidnets” bet they will be charged much differently!
I understand that fender benders will happen, and I don’t believe they should result in serious criminal or motor vehicle charges. However, when you’re so inattentive that you slam into stopped traffic at full speed, a careless driving charge should be automatic. I was almost killed some years ago on a highway when the guy behind us failed to notice that traffic ahead of him had almost come to a stop - we were doing about 10 or 15 mph - and slammed into us doing 65 or 70. He DID get charged with careless driving.
Usually rear-ending a stopped car is considered a very obvious offense. You are supposed to keep enough space between you and the car ahead so you can stop if they do.
There can be mitigating circumstances, such as someone slamming on the brakes for no reason, but even then the driver behind is usually penalized.
This sounds like negligent homicide to me.

“No cause for a brethalyzer”?? When was the last time you heard that one.
This McDonald has to be politically-connected somehow.
WTF...is all I can say!
Regardless of all legal arguments it’s time to get the word out to all motorcyclists and their families to never ever patronize a single business in Mt Pleasant, SC. A list of any businesses might be good too.
We are planning on an around the USA bike tour when I retire next year. Rest assured that I will avoid Mt Pleasant SC on that ride. Never will that town get one nickel of tourist dollars from me. Not much of a threat, but there it is.
The families of the bikers need to get in touch with ABATE
