By Christopher Keating on May 18, 2010 8:17 PM | Permalink | Comments (4) The Cook Political Report - one of the most highly respected, non-partisan national analyses - is now saying that the U.S. Senate race in Connecticut is a toss-up.
The change for the report comes on the day that The New York Times published a front-page story and released a video that shows that Attorney General Richard Blumenthal said that he served in Vietnam when he did not. The change in the rating for the race is a major turnaround from the conventional wisdom, which placed Blumenthal far ahead of all challengers.
Blumenthal is seeking the Democratic nomination on Friday night at the state party convention in Hartford, and challenger Merrick Alpert would need 15 percent of the delegates to force a primary in August.
Politico is reporting that Alpert now has a new lease on life.
if the guy was a republican, the base would’ve run him out of the party. But since he’s a democrat, lying is acceptable, so i dont think he’ll lose much support from them
Yes, 11 Dem senate seats in Play!!!!!!!
Linda McMahon gets credit for making this public. However, if you’re going to defeat someone who lied about his record during the Vietnam War, who better to challenge him than a decorated Vietnam veteran?
This is a race I’d like to see some poll numbers on.
Is there a strong Pubbie in the race?
No kidding. I was just reading a different site and some lib wrote something to the effect of..."so all politicians lie, so what?" Too bad democrats are at best amoral.
Cook Political Report: Blumenthal Race Is Now Toss-Up
That lying rat bstrd wins my cookies will be a toss up...
Interesting ... :-)
My guess is that the folks in Connecticut will overlook the fact that the man is a liar and has no integrity. They’ll forget about this by November and plug in another demo.
Once again dear friends, we are treated to the pathological hypocrisy of the left. The left criticized Dan Quayle because he was in the reserves. The left accused George W. Bush of draft dodging because he was in the reserves. But what about lying about a record? What about getting a deferment to avoid Viet Nam? If it’s a Republican - oh man, he’s dead meat. If it’s a Democrat, uh - no biggie.
Consider that vets are considered among the most admired Americans; and also that war vets are a special class of veterans.
Violations of truth and trust come in various degrees. If someone were to say that he was captain of the chess team when he was a mere alternate...that is a breach of trust. But it is survivable.
If someone were caught posing as a Viet Vet, and accepted accolades and honors of that group. Then, this his a lie of a much higher order of deceit. It willfully sticks a bayonet in that which we hold quite closely, as nation.
Some lies can be outlived.
Not those of Mister Blumenthal.

It appears that Connecticut is now in play... ;-)
Is Rob Simmons even running for this seat? Haven’t heard a peep from him. No ads or mailers either. We continue to get inundated with Linda McMahon pamphlets...
Alpert has no chance in November. This is a GOP pick up. We no longer need to beat both Boxer and Feingold to retake the Senate. One of either will do.
Because the race was a no-win for anyone vs. Skeletor. Now it's wide open again. You'll hear from Simmons but I think it's too late. McMahon will unfortunately win the nomination. She is a total RINO.
Whale poop is as high as they can go.
