Hillsdale College Launches Charter School Initiative
Hillsdale, Mich. Hillsdale College announced today it has launched a K-12 charter school initiative to have a positive and lasting effect on the education of young Americans. The school will be based on a classical liberal arts model and will have a strong civics component that will equip students to understand and defend the principles of the American Constitution.
Reform of American public education, to be successful and good, must be built on a foundation of classical liberal arts learning, said Phil Kilgore, Director of Hillsdale Colleges Barney Charter School Initiative. This is the kind of learning best suited to a free society and most needed for its preservation. Our charter school initiative is an important step in that direction.
On May 31, 2010, Hillsdale College will issue a Request for Proposal, inviting proposals from parents and local citizens who are committed to education reform, who plan to apply or are in the process of applying for a charter, and who are interested in an association with Hillsdale. Particular focus will be on the states of Arkansas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Texas, due to their laws governing charter schools.

WOOOOOOHOOOOOOO!
Not good!
Guess Who Runs 85+ U.S. Charter Schools???
Yep, an Islamist Gülen Movement.

Good. Classical education makes thinkers who learn logic and reason, and how to find the truth, the things Marxist infiltration destroyed in our public schools.
I have now emailed them to see if I can help in some way.
Pity they can’t open one in their home state of MI.
Our charter law only allows so many University sponsored charters.
My kids would be in school in a heartbeat if we could get them into a Hillsdale sponsored school.
Hillsdale College is by far the best of the best. This is significant.
How can we help and support them.
Been trying to figure out how to get both my teenage girls to go to Hillsdale for college. Neither cares for snow very much...
Link is outdated—doesn’t work.....
Keep it in Michigan.
We need it desperately.
Have you done any research about how many companies run charter schools in the US?
There are hundreds
How about how many charter schools there are?
Over one million students are enrolled in more than 3,500 schools in 40 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico this year.
Those 85 schools are in Utah and AZ only. While I do think it’s a big deal, do you REALLY think that Hillsdale will go with that company to run their charters?
Come on.
Seriously, in my personal experience (daughter attended, nephews still attend) Charters beat PS by far. They are one of our few hopes for improving education in the US.
Their scope and sequence is freely available from their website.

Thanks—that one works.
I am interested because I have 3 grandchildren in a charter school in the Ft Worth area.
Thankfully, theirs’ is not one of these schools.
Bump.
for later
That doesn’t much help with a charter in MI.
From what a homeschooling mom can see, they are using a classical education. Fantastic!
We’re doing the same. It makes a successful child.
And one who can tell a bully to go blow in Latin!
I agree to an extent about the Charter v. PS.
I really don’t care for either, & yes I’ve done research on Charter schools.
I’ll be happy to provide some researched links if you’d like.
