WEST HARTFORD, Conn. Senate candidate Richard Blumenthal on Tuesday said he had "misspoken" in claiming more than once that he served in Vietnam, dismissing the furor that threatened to endanger a seemingly safe Democratic seat as a matter of "a few misplaced words."
At a news conference backed by veterans, the popular Connecticut attorney general and front-runner to replace the retiring Sen. Christopher Dodd, said he meant to say he served "during Vietnam" instead of "in Vietnam." He said the statements were "totally unintentional" errors that occurred only a few times out of hundreds of public appearances.

Stolen Valor bump
My active service was 1960 - 1965, and, due to the classified nature of my mission I was not allowed to even go near any war zone or Communist country. I always refer to myself as a "Vietnam-era veteran".
And, that is exacly what Blumenthal is -- no more, no less.
Congratulations for your honesty & integrity. My brother-in-law enlisted in the Marines in 1970 and spent part of 1971 on a carrier operating out of Japan. He never got within a thousand miles of Vietnam, but I see that when a veterans memorial park was built in Winona, MN, he purchased a brick (ok, as a veteran) but then listed his service tour as "Vietnam Veteran". I pointed this out to my wife & him that this was really kind of stretching the truth and got my head bit off. Maybe that's one more reason why my wife & I are now separated.
misplaced words...?
oh, the TRUTH
It’s funny, there are Freepers who will ridicule this, but they will accept the same excuse from John Cornyn when he revealed his true feelings about Obamacare.
HYou dont mistake the phrase during Vietnam instead of in Vietnam. it just doesnt happen over and over.
He knew what he was doing.
He received at least five military deferments that enabled him to stay out of the war between 1965 and 1970, during which time he went to Harvard, studied in England and landed a job in the Nixon White House. Once he secured a spot in the Marine Reserve, he had almost no chance of being sent to Vietnam, the newspaper reported.
The SOB not only did not apologize, he tried to defend his military service. STFU, Bluminthal.

I saw at least one of the threads. I was initially outraged by the place of of the presser. A Veterans of Foreign Wars: That alone continued the lie. Being backed by posers is frosting on the cake. Blumenthal seems to be a pathological liar. He lied about being the captain of the harvard swim team. Thanks !
