'Humiliation and intimidation' of Palestinians behind decision to scrap Caesarea concerts, British singer says.
British singer-songwriter Elvis Costello this week became the latest in a list of stars to cancel performances in Israel as a political protest.
Costello, who was due to play two shows in Caesarea on June 30 and 31, posted a message on his website in which he announced that he would scrap the concerts in protest at what he termed the intimidation and humiliation of Palestinians by Israel.

Isn’t there any smart CONSERVATIVE entertainers anywhere??
Why are the celebrities LIBERAL IDIOTS
And I like his music too....
_ _ _ _ Him! and the horse he rode in on...
As all the artists line up on the side of Baal, I find my own listening tastes getting ever more eclectic. There is a lot of good stuff out there by people no one has ever heard of. If no one has heard of them, then no one has interviewed them to get them on record where they stand on Baal worship.
Or, if they did, its perhaps in a language I don’t read, or in publications I don’t get. Which, for me, is the same thing.
Country and heavy metal seems to be where the conservative and liberarian singers seem to land.
Honestly I’ve never been able to put my finger on why that is. I suspect it may be because so many country singers are raised with conservative ideals. Metal singers I’m unsure of why.
For a boycott to be effective, it helps to be relevant.
Personally, I didn’t like Elvis Costello when he was relevant. In the early 80s, the music industry was trying to push “geek” rock on us (Devo, Talking Heads, Elvis Costello, etc). Elvis Costello was the worst of it...nasal voice, poor instrumentals, uninspiring lyrics.
Elvis has been recording country/rootsy music as of late.
” Honestly Ive never been able to put my finger on why that is. I suspect it may be because so many country singers are raised with conservative ideals. Metal singers Im unsure of why. “
Metal tend to be Libretarian Conservative types maybe?
Is this supposed to be a loss of some sort for Israel? LOL
....is this supposed to be a bad thing for Israel??? LOL
Didn’t Elvis Costello make some unflattering racial remarks about James Brown? Sometime in the 1980s he referred to James Brown as a “jive ass ‘n’. What a guy!
Oops, sorry for double post -
It has to do with the music industry.
Heavy Metal isn’t so much about political correctness as it is “rock and roll”.
Communists and by proxy hippies, didn’t like rock and roll, until they were able to co-opt it. Before that, it was juvenile junk and the product of capitalist Westernism.
Recall how they hated it when Bob Dylan went electric. He was supposed to be the spokesman of his generation.
The U2s, Pearl Jams, Radioheads, and REMs have the “right” politics. You have to get on the air sometime to become “big”. Plenty of other established acts don’t get the call.
Punk began as a backlash against hippie jams and political correctness. Legs McNeil has said as much. While Wayne Kramer and John Sinclair try to wear Sinclair’s “White Panthers” manifesto on the sleeves of the MC5, they were routinely called out by the hard left for not walking the walk. They merely were marketed as “radicals” by John Sinclair. Getting booked at the DNC 1968 convention helped (although the crowd had been told to expect the Beatles or the Stones).
There are left wing and even Communist sympathizing country artists. Kris Kristoferson, Steve Earle, Dixie Chicks, others.
Johnny Cash’s family seems to be to the left of his own political stance.
Not everyone feels compelled to beat their audiences over the head with their politics.
“Mr. Diana Krall may be a jerk but he has written some great songs.”
I like HER music. In fact Canada turns out a lot of good musical performers.
He was considered one of the best lyricists around.
Last I heard he was singing the âstandardsâ of Burt Bacharach.
Who would pay good money to see Elvis Costello......he’s a lead in act at best!!!! I’m sure Israel is quaking in it’s boots at the threat of rioting in the streets because Elvis Costello isn’t showing!!!
He cowrote songs he did with Burt.
Yes, our esteemed “artists” are so open, fair, unbiased and non judgmental. And not a single anti-Semite among them.
