CHICAGO – A new "Little Ice Age" could begin in just four years, predicted Habibullo Abdussamatov, the head of space research at St. Petersburg's Pulkovo Astronomical Observatory in Russia.
Abdussamatov was speaking yesterday at the Heartland Institute's Fourth International Conference on Climate Change in Chicago, which began Sunday and ends today.
The Little Ice Age, which occurred after an era known in scientific circles as the Medieval Warm Period, is typically defined as a period of about 200 years, beginning around 1650 and extending through 1850.
In the first of a two-part video WND recorded at the conference, Abdussamatov explained that average annual sun activity has experienced an accelerated decrease since the 1990s. In 2005-2008, he said, the earth reached the maximum of the recent observed global-warming trend.
In Part 2 of the video, Abdussamatov further explained that through 2014 the earth will go through a series of unstable variations in which global temperature will oscillate around the maximum reached in the years 1998-2005.
In 2003-2005, Abdussamatov predicted a reduction of sunspot activity that would reach a new minimum in 2042, resulting in a deep global temperature minimum in the years 2055-2060.
"My predictions are looking better and better with each passing year," Abdussamatov declared.

He must be running out of his Russian grant money to study climate.
Yes, we are in a low in the approximate 11-year sunspot cycle. However, the level of solar activity at each 11-year peak varies over the long term. That long term variation is what the chart I posted is pointing out.
Hell, Russia was probably hoping for global warming since it would help thaw some of their country out.

Have any of you seen or heard of how Henrik Svensmark’s CLOUD experiments at CERN are going? They’re checking whether cosmic rays cause an increase in low level clouds on Earth, and are linked to theory of decreased magnetic sun activity allowing more cosmic rays to strike the Earth.
The Center for Sun-Climate Research at the DNSC (Danish National Space Center) investigates the connection between variations in the intensity of cosmic rays and climatic changes on Earth. What is climate research at the DNSC? [Danish National Space Center]
The Earth’s climate is always changing. This has been the case in the geological and historical time and even during the last 150 years, where systematic climate measurements have been made, we have seen clear climate changes.
Climate changes have both a scientific and a social perspective. The social perspective is associated with the range of climate change that can be attributed to the increasing human induced contribution. The scientific perspective is an endeavour to understand the full complex system of the various sources of climate change and their mutual interactions.
The Danish National Space Center, DNSC, comprises the country's largest collected expertise in the scientific disciplines that play a major and documented role in the understanding of climate change both in geological and historical time, namely variations in solar activity. DNSC regards it essential that this collected expertise is being used in an attempt to understand the natural causes of climate change in order to evaluate the contribution of natural causes to global change. Taking into account the large uncertainty associated with the estimated human contribution, a good research based estimate of the range of natural climate variations is an essential information.
DNSC is basing its effort in this area on own scientific results – observational, experimental, and theoretical. The scientific results have been published internationally and indicate that the varying activity of the Sun is indeed the largest and most systematic contributor to natural climate variations. The effect goes through solar modulation of the cosmic radiation, which affects the formation of aerosols and thereby also the formation of clouds. Even though a physical mechanism connecting cosmic rays to aerosol formation has been found experimentally, no climate model has yet made an attempt to include such an effect.
That there exists a significant contribution from solar activity variations to global temperature increase does not, however, exclude other contributions to the rising global temperature, natural as well as human. DNSC, however, is focused on establishing the best possible and scientifically based evaluation of the size of solar induced effects on climate.
Why is the climate changing?
Climate is subject to influences by both natural and human forces, including greenhouse gases, aerosols, solar activity, and land use change. The climate system is extremely complex and any estimate of the human contribution to climate change is very uncertain.
What are the natural causes to climate change?
Changes in the Sun contribute to climate change. Solar activity has been exceptionally high in the 20th century compared to the last 400 years and possibly compared to the past 8,000 years. When solar activity is high, the flux of galactic cosmic rays is reduced due to increased magnetic shielding by the Sun. The cosmic rays may influence Earths climate through formation of low lying clouds.
How can cosmic rays influence cloud formation?
Cosmic rays ionize the atmosphere and an experiment performed at the Danish National Space Center has found that the production of aerosols in a sample atmosphere with condensable gases (such as sulphuric acid and water vapor) depends on the amount of ionization. Since aerosols work as precursors for formation of cloud droplets, this is an indication that cosmic rays affect climate.
Climate models only include the effects of the small variations in the direct solar radiation (infrared, visible and UV). The effects of cosmic rays on clouds are not included in models and the models do a rather poor job of simulating clouds in the present climate. Since cloud feedbacks are a large source of uncertainty, this is a reason for concern when viewing climate model predictions.

Here's an excellent ~new book out on the subject titled "The Chilling Stars, 2nd Edition: A Cosmic View of Climate Change". It's written by one of the top scientists advancing the theory (Henrik Svensmark, of the above mentioned Danish National Space Center/DNSC).

That November 2009 test run generated over 60 ion induced nucleation bursts. They were refining the equipment and purifying the water supply at this report.

It’s not a question of prediction. Climate records are still being set right now. After a look on the Web of Science Journal Database, which I would encourage someone with free time to check out the journal articles there. There’s still measuring experiments on various aspects of global climate going on in the past five years (recent for publication history). But regardless of whether ice age or a prolonged interglacial happens, we actually are recording the Earth’s climate, and actually have the tools to do so. I hope there’s time before a real ice age, because an ice age is a true killer of the food supply, just take a look at what happened to the Norse, or much of Europe when they lost their years of golden sunshine. There was something that drove them to colonize tropical America.
We’ve actually improved in a number of ways. Smoke, Ozone, Nitrous Oxides, and Acid Rain have declined more than 60-70% in the U.S. since 1970. Ozone is extremely bad to inhale, Acid rain is costly from the damages it causes (Limestone is used a great deal in concrete). And less nitrous oxides helps somewhat with the smog. What you are seing in politics is a return to Puritanism with the AGW/Climate change camp. They keep seeking this perfection, but don’t seem to also say, “relax and be happy we’ve almost gotten rid of the bad stuff from the turn of the century”. It’s okay, and recommendable to celebrate milestones every now and then.
The problem with immigration is that the politicians are self-destructive to their own ends on this one. They say let the population growth be controlled, but at the same time, they also recommend letting people come and go across our borders as they please, does that sound reasonable to you?
Uh-oh. I’m sure it’ll be blamed on man. Anthropogenic global cooling. AGC.
More university research grants. Cap and trade, only this time on food, which will be in short supply because of the loss of agriculture in the north.
