Former First Lady Laura Bush has come out against the Arizona immigration law, pointing to the discrimination that her own Irish ancestors, named Welch, faced in their time.
In an interview with Fox News, Bush said the new law merely showed an upsurge in prejudice similar to what her Irish ancestors faced.

At least she stayed mum for 10 years, I'll give her that.
I was especially outraged by her support for Elena Kagen.
Based solely on the fact that Kagen is a woman.
God help us.
No different than voting for O because he’s black.
Mindless mindless mindless.
Laura shows us the wisdom of being silent for all those years.
What, is she trying to sell books to liberals?
She will alienate those that supported the Bush family, and not pick up any support from the left.
No, she’s not a politician, and maybe she’s sincere. But she sure as heck hasn’t thought it through.
I don’t recall the Irish claiming that US territory was theirs.
My Irish Catholic ancestors snuck across the border into upstate New York in 1845 (fled Ireland during the potato famine). No doubt many like them faced discrimination.
I support enforcement of our immigration laws.
The deeds and misdeeds of my ancestors have no bearing on what’s right.
Not on this unsanctioned thread..:)
I agree with that
I never thought I’d need to say this, because up til now I’ve always liked Laura Bush. But jumping the shark.
Laura Bush, STFU, please.
But they succeeded in getting Bush to push harder on Border enforcement ....This is something you and most of the yahoos on this thread will not give him credit for. He turned things around on the border
you are joking right? There is no way you can be serious about the right winning on the border when we have the problems we do and saying Bush did more on the border
LOL
As for what Reagan did , you admit he never worked so why the hell would you do the same thing then, that’s the meaning of insanity
The difference is, Miss Hillary... er Laura, the Irish were manifested on ships and arrived here LEGALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, it’s now established that Laura Bush is a nitwit.
Let us not forget her husband’s pre-911 love affair with Mexico and his 2006 amnesty bill.
Wonder if Laura and Meghan McCain ever hang out?
Just go away, Laura. Nobody cares what you think.
Laura has always been dopey and a dopey influence on her family. She and George just had to be sort of quiet about it to win elections before but now they can let the mask slip. Spending like a screaming banshi, centralizing education with no child left behind, Harriet Miers and open borders/amnesty are moves George made to clue you in but conservatives were busy playing the comprommising cheer leading squad back then. Conservatives kicked his butt on Meyers and amnesty/open borders (thank God) but let the socialism progress in big government because conservatives went to sleep on socialism.
George Bush was friends with globalism and big government. That is why he used to get along so well with liberals in Texas and the Bushes tend to get tougne tied when it comes to slaming and undermining liberalism. George was “bi-partisan.”
0bama and Calderon are probably planning to form a coalition force to invade Arizona and enact "regime change."
If I saw this jerk’s book at a yard sale for 25 cents I wouldn’t buy it.
I never liked her pro-Obama daughters, either.
Laura should just go and join the Dixie Chicks.
At my house, we knew she held these beliefs before the 2000 election. Why didnt everyone else?
*******
People I know heard and just refused to believe it. Just like lots of people refused to believe that her husband really meant what he said during his 2000 campaign, when he promised to drastically expand entitlement spending and federal control over education, among other things.
Have any of these gas bags seen the law ? Do they know it mirrors federal law?
******
Of course they know it mirrors federal law. They don’t support the federal law, either.
All pictures of Laura Bush have been removed from my house.
