Rasmussen: Rubio 39%, Crist 31%, Meek 18% (The Crist traitor bounce is gone)
Rasmussen Reports ^ | May 17, 2010 | Scott Rasmussen

Charlie Crist received a bounce in the polls when he left the Republican Party to run for the U.S. Senate as an independent. New numbers suggest that the bounce for the governor is over.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely voters in Florida finds Republican Marco Rubio with 39% support, while Crist earns 31% of the vote and Democrat Kendrick Meek trails at 18%. Twelve percent (12%) are undecided.

Two weeks ago, just after Crist announced that he was running as an independent, he held a 38% to 34% advantage over Rubio.

The latest numbers parallel the findings in April two weeks before Crist announced he was quitting the Republican Primary race.

Crist, whose numbers had been in freefall in his primary match-up with Rubio, has been actively courting Democrats. But Meek now edges Crist among Democratic voters after trailing him two weeks ago.

Among Republicans, Crist’s support has dropped from 30% two weeks ago to 23% now. Rubio, the Cuban-American former speaker of the state House, earns 68% of Republicans, up 10 points from the previous survey.

Crist’s lead over Rubio among voters not affiliated with either party has narrowed as well, from 12 points early in the month to three points now.

Crist is now competing with Kendrick Meek for Democrat votes. While Democrat strategists may want to abandon Meek and support Crist at this point, they will not be able to - the grassroots will revolt as will the black activist groups. Crist also has serious credibility issues - saying things now that are 180 degrees out of step with what he said a few weeks back. The two will split the center-left vote, leaving Rubio with the entire GOP base and most indepedents. It's hard to see a path to victory for Crist - and it serves that narcissist well. Charlie Crist's career will be over permanently after this election.

A great relief (albeit fleeting) to see this. After Crist jumped out of the GOP and went “I”, and suddenly so much support had been sapped from Rubio, I was getting very concerned about that race.

Order is restored to the universe, thankfully.

Now, the question becomes, does Crist get an offer he can't refuse from someone in the administration, to get out of the race?

Boy, that was a short bounce. I hope Crist ends up LOWER than Meeks.
He’s a spineless, empty suit whose only goal is to win.

Figured this would happen. Rubio should win this pretty handily. Crist is finished.

It looks like Rubio has taken votes from both Crist and Meek.

Remember one other thing, the week Crist announced his move, Rubio was still under the gun over the manufactured credit card “scandal.” Now that that has faded, Rubio returns to his former lead.

Oh Crist he could have gone down as someone who lost a primary yet with dignity intact, now he will be known only as a loser with no shame. Well done Crist you shameless loser!

Democrats are pretty much stuck with Meeks and Crist is stuck with being the arrogant fraud, sell-out and traitor he has always been. Hopefully republicans know that a vote for Crist will simply translate into a vote for Meeks.

Hopefully Rubio will start running adds similar to what Sestak is doing to Specter here in Pa. Show clips of him saying one thing to be the Republican and totally opposite as he’s running as an independent. I’m sure those clips are out there...

Why don’t we just elect people according to polls? Save the trouble of going out and actually voting.

“Crist is finished.”

I hope you're right. I can't stand career politicians. Let Crist go out and get a real job and work as an American citizen. I wish there was a law on the books that prevented anyone who previously held public office from lobbying (I know, there are probably Constitutional issues..).

No way Crist is going to get 23 % of the Republican vote. Remember, Rubio hasnt run any ads focussing on flip flopping, etc yet.

Its all downhill for Crist now. IMO he and Meek will switch poll positions, by the end of the day.

as more republicans see him sell the party and more independents see him as a guy who just wants to go there for personal ambition his numbers will go down
