Big day in politics tomorrow. Among others, there are two elections in Pennsylvania that will get a great deal of attention, as well as a Republican primary for U.S. Senate in Kentucky, and a Democratic primary for Senate in Arkansas which will keep the lines buzzing for a while.
In Pennsylvania, the primary between Sen. Arlen Specter and Rep. Joe Sestak will decide who gets be the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate to run against Pat Toomey in the fall.
The likely story is Sestak will win because he is running a very smart campaign, reminding Democratic voters that Specter was a Republican for 126 years until he realized he couldn't survive a GOP primary challenge and so switched, only to find he probably won't survive a Democratic primary.
Alas.
President Barack Obama has endorsed Specter so a loss will be seen as further evidence (along with the results in Virginia and New Jersey last November) that the bloom is well and truly off the Obama political rose.
Also in Pennsylvania there is a special election to fill the vacancy in the U.S. House brought about by the death of John Murtha, who had held that seat for almost as long as Specter was a Republican. Murtha's staffer, Mark Critz is running against Republican businessman Tim Burns.
This is a lunchbox-Democrat district which may well elect the Republican.

Ira Ihorn Liberal hippie who murdered his girl friend and almost go away with it. His first defense attorney. None othe than dear Arlin.
Yes. And Einhorn left the country and able to live the life of Riley in France cuz Arlen got him out on bail. Nice work. I can’t stand Specter. I didn’t like him as A Republican and like him less as a Democrat. And it doens’t matter which one runs against Toomey, they are going to lose.
Sestak is a weasel, a Clinton holdover. He’s done, too. But it will be satisfying to watch Arlen go first, if it happens. Dems eating their own. Fine viewing.
Sestak is a bigger threat to Toomey than Specter would be. If Specter wins alot of Democrats will stay home in November. Especially with a governor’s race that will not be very interesting. GO ARLEN!!
I’ll bring the popcorn. :)
“Specter was a Republican for 126 years”
He started young?
If Sestak wins the primary, then the debates will tell the story. Toomey mopped the floor with him and Sestak came off looking like a wimpy whiney Michael Dukakis(as if that’s possible) All Joe can do it toe the party line. He’s the cap and tax guy. That should go over well in coal country. He’s the healthcare guy, that should go over well anywhere in the state.
If snarlin Arlen does pull this one out, I hope Toomey’s people were taking notes on Sestak’s commercials. Some of them are doozies, where he has clips of Bush and Obama praising Arlen essentially saying similar things. It’s hilarious and shows how Arlen is just out for Arlen. No real principles anywhere. Typical moderate...
The only reason the “empty suit” Sestack is where he is , is because of the trumped up false charges against Weldon that mysteriously disappeared after he lost the election for State Representative to Sestack. Able Danger was another undoing. Weldon knew too much .
Specter has looked REALLY bad in recent public appearances.
He speaks as if he OD’s an Prozac before trying to read a teleprompter. I think most voters have concluded he is toast for health reasons, if nothing else.
Interesting dynamic in the Critz-Burns race now. Critz had for weeks been running ads distorting Burns’ support of the Fair Tax (”a new 23% sales tax on medicine, gas, groceries, everything you buy”) Burns called him on it and he was forced to apologize, but the SEIU and other front groups are STILL running ads with this same message.
Burns has responded with ads directly quoting Democrat Barbara Hafer about Critz “having many ethical problems.” The popcorn is really flying at this point.
I hope Toomeys people were taking notes on Sestaks commercials. Some of them are doozies
Sestak’s ads are brilliantly crafted to cause Libtard cranial explosions! They show repeated clips of Arlen campaigning with George W Bush and Sarah Palin, and then that creepy, halting statement of his that he “is changing parties in order to get re-elected”. If I were a Lib that would have my blood boiling! (not sure how Toomey could use it though)
I totally agree. Weldon is a good man and was my Congressman who served his district and this country well. Sestak is a Clinton plant with even Sandy Berger as a major contributor. I can’t wait to see him go. We’re going for a hat trick in Pa., House, Senator and Governor seats will go to Republicans this term.
