It was just a simple sales transaction set up via Craigslist, the Internet classified ads site. The item being offered was valuable a 1.07-carat diamond ring, with an asking price of $1,050 but James Sanders, a trusting man, felt there was nothing to fear.
Hes sold different things on Craigslist, Charlene Sanders told TODAYs Meredith Vieira Tuesday from Puyallup, Wash.
Tragically, Charlene Sanders is a widow today and her husband, James, is dead. He died defending his family from four people who came to the house in response to his ad. They didnt come to buy the ring; they came to steal it, along with anything else of value the family had.

let’s hear from the libertarians who think wholly unregulated markets are Utopia.
I remember that guy who claimed he had Obama’s Kenyan BC said that he’s meet the purchaser on the steps of the state capitol.
I think maybe if you sell a diamond on Craig’s List, you might want to meet the purchaser at a police station.
I very rarely answer the door without a gun in hand or tucked in somewhere.
It does make it kind of awkward when it’s the cops...
Don’t worry about those people. In today’s world, you’re crazy NOT to have a gun. Have at LEAST one and know how to use it - they are life-savers.
HATE CRIME ALERT.
Ignored by MSM because victim is white.
Certainly you would think twice when they show up at 9PM.
I don’t.
Seems like the Big Media likes to play up any violence associated with a Craigslist advertisement because they are losing huge revenues as a result of Craigslist offering free advertisements.
My house is armed with two layers of defense. 7 loaded weapons and no mercy. If you get by the camera , you will regret it.
You, sir or madame, are an idiot.
I’m thinking that security concerns will make a middle-man exchanger a lucrative business for some Ebay side business entrepreneur.
Welcome to the Democrat’s America where criminals run rampant and the ignorant enable them.
What's tiring is hearing from anti-libertarians who cite every crime as proof of the anarchy that would rule if libertarian ideas were more accepted. As if libertarians wouldn't life in a word with law, or due process, or peace officers, or self-defense, or trade networks, or common law.
And God forbid we shoud ever go so far as having a Constitution based on Negative Rights - why, in that case, no rights would even need to be specified! LOL!
I hate seeing all the bad rap that craigslist is getting.
Never had more success advertising my business that with craigslist.
Seller /Buyer beware, always exercise caution.
Ban Craigstlist and dimaonds now! /s

Yeah! The same thing would have happened, if those criminals had read the ad in the local daily paper there, or if the seller had placed it in the Nickel Ads, and those same people had seen it. They were looking for an opportunity to commit a crime.
They killed him for $1,000?
Our lives have been taken over by criminals, who take every new technological advantage and turn it into something awful. I have a friend who is a realtor who ended up being stalked by a man (supposedly a would-be client) who found out about her on Craigslist, and I have a family member who works on crimes against children...committed through perfectly innocent websites.
These creeps get out there and destroy all the good things that technology can bring to us.
