We are seeing the first signs of wobble on the Sarah Palin bandwagon. This may seem a strange thing to say about a political superstar who has earned at least $12 million in the past 18 months from a publishing advance, personal appearance fees and a television punditry contract, not to forget a reality show about life in Alaska.
Palin is such a boon to the struggling book world that her second opus, America by Heart - Reflection on Family, Faith and Flag, can already be ordered in advance even though publication is six months away. A return to the number one spot on the best seller list surely awaits.
But other indices are proving less kind to the former Alaska governor. According to a recent poll more Alaskans than not think the presidency should not form the next chapter of Palin's extraordinary story, while 45 per cent gave her a negative personal rating. When John McCain plucked her from obscurity to be his Republican running mate in the 2008 campaign, her approval rating at home was 80 per cent, the highest of any governor in the country.
Now even a poll of Tea Party supporters, her most ardent fans, showed that a majority wouldn't vote for her if she ran for president in 2012. It is not just that the faithful are beginning to question her readiness for the White House.

I have actually seen posters write that Palin fans don't allow posters to criticize Sarah Palin. That's not the truth. It's saying Sarah Palin is the enemy that some of us argue over. It's inferring that she's a *ahem* "lady of the evening" (to put it nicely) when they post, "Did Palin get her money off the dresser after she made that endorsement?"
Those are hateful comments, not criticism on policy or ideals, IMO.
I feel like I've been saying the same things for several months now so I apologize for taking the shortcut and not making my comments clear.

I agree 100%. That is the minimum he needs to do. If, and I say “If”, he survives, he should “put a sock in it.” I don’t know if he will, but I don’t want Mitt’s paws on the RNC. He would use it for his own purposes and if he didn’t get his way, he would try to take down the ticket in 2012.

The author is a no-nothing nobody who makes up facts and is without a clue. I love these “polls” of Tea Partiers that are conveniently cited by the Lamers in the lamestream media—who otherwise couldn’t find a member of the Tea Party with compass but somehow manage to always round up a sampling of 1,000 tea party members when the moment suits them. The media is comprised of shameless grifters.
The proof is in historical accounts from people were who were there. I got my proof from Chapter 24 of Craig Shirley's book, Rendezvous with Destiny. The chapter is titled "Motown Madness" and recounts the negotiations between Reagan and Gerald Ford which broke down.
It was understood by everybody including Reagan that Bush was the second choice. Time had run out to make a decision and Reagan went around the room and asked if anybody disagreed on Bush and hearing none he said "Well, let's get him on the phone" (pg. 364).
The footnote on the final choice was Richard Allen's article in the New York Times "The Accidental Vice President". Among other things Allen inferred in the article that the search for a VP had been an unstructured one. Dick Wirthlin, Reagan's pollster, wrote a follow-up letter to the NYT disagreeing with that saying that the search had always centered on 3 names...Ford, Bush and Howard Baker.
Both Allen and Dick Wirthlin were in the room when the decision was made, along with Ed Meese, Bill Casey and Peter Hannaford.
Ninety percent of the FReepers who disaparage Palin for backing McCain or Fiorina or Paul or otherwise not being conservative enough or “pure” enough will vote for her in 2012. That’s just the way it is.

I think you’re being reasonable, when you sense a reasonable person on the other side. I know it’s frustrating when people just resort to course quips and name calling. I agree, that helps nothing and is juvenile.
As to saying the same things - I have a few stock quotes I pull out probably twice a week about 3rd parties and put out there. There are 300,000 people + or - on this board...so you’ll probably have to repeat yourself quite a bit!

It is an argument about purists. How pure is too pure. How impure is too impure. Is a GOP president that signs an immigration reform bill that include amnesty automatically a Rino? Is a president that signs on to the biggest tax increase in US history a Rino?
I am not so one issue oriented that I will call a good conservative president a Rino whether his name is Reagan or G.W. Bush. Like you, with Governor Palin or Reagan or G.W. Bush I would not expect to agree with every single thing they do. I do generally agree with the philosophy they have used in governing.

And, in fact, they probably cannot tell us who they support for POTUS 2012, and if that person is pure enough. That said, there is legit, healthy criticism that I hope Sarah herself will listen to - if not from us, then from others like us that she depends on for wise counsel.
She’s become a shill for McCain — The Rubio endorsement came after McCain gave the go-ahead.
That was when Crist went Independent. She stayed out prior because McCain was still going to go down and support Crist over Rubio.
The Fiorina endorsement just signed the deal between herself and McCain. And she is in AZ with Brewer who also endorsed McCain and they are trying to maintain that support for McCain.
Devore was damn near invisible until that endorsement got him hot enough to speak out. We’ve had lots of so-called conservatives in California That couldn’t seem to say sh!t if they had a mouthful. Even Bob Dornan got tongue tied when it came time to spill the beans on Gingrich arranging funding for Sanchez.
One of the problems with conservatives, and I know of what I speak, is that we tend not to want to move unless we forced to do so. When the Progressives of the nineteeth century started labeling their opponents as reactionaries, they weren’t far off. It still takes a palpable threat to get us off the dime. Please demonstrate how I’m wrong about that. Lie to me if you have to.
You have next to zero understanding of election politics; you would do well to refrain from making these kinds of comments.
I can’t say that you’re wrong. Its fairly evident that something stands in the way of conservatives doing any effective campaigning.
