BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Seneca Nation of Indians welcomed President Barack Obama to Buffalo with protesters in the street and a full page ad in the local newspaper saying he broke his promise to honor treaties when he signed a law that will devastate the Indian tobacco trade and put thousands of people out of work in Western New York.
The ad was in the form of an open letter.
“Dear Mr. President, Last fall you invited Native American leaders to Washington, D.C. and promised to listen to our concerns and respect our treaty rights. You pledged meaningful consultation and dialogue before any changes in federal policies impacting Indian Country.
“Your words instilled confidence and hope in the hearts of the Seneca people. We believed your pledge to make tribes full partners in the economy and give Indian children a shot at the American Dream. But, Mr. President, you failed to keep your word,” the ad said.

No one remembers that the Indian’s were placed on reservations because they never kept THEIR promises to stop raiding, stealing, murdering, and raping. Besides, throughout human history there is one constant rule. No one owns any land they can’t protect. The Indians understood and practiced this rule amongst themselves, with stronger tribes taking the lands of weaker ones. The same rules apply today and we better not forget that.
Nothing new here. The US Government has been screwing the Indians for centuries.
The 1/32’nd part of me that is Cherokee smiles every time I hear this joke. The other 31/32’nds mutt part of me facepalms because it is so true.

Do NOT make the mistake of lumping all ‘tribes/Indians’ into the same category. They were as diverse/civilized as we are in this country today. Some tried to be modern, join society.
Some still haven’t bothered.

Please do look that up, flingwingflyer. I remember he was named an native son of some Indian Tribe. I figured Obummer was hedging his bets in case they found his birth certificate, Obummer could then say but I’m a native son of the Seneca’s or something. Whichever tribe adopted him, I sincerely hope he gets unadopted soon.
