Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.
Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.
In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."
Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

Good move. I don’t blame you a bit.
It’s only a matter of time until the next one too.
OWF, I must call BS. I know you've knitted little voodoo dolls of each one of us (read it in a truth file somewhere)...Ouch! Stop it! I can't believe you'd stick a pin there
PS, what does that chicken foot mean that's hanging over the sickoflibs doll?
OUCH! QUIT!
No doubt, when you have a racist Mayor, City Council, and govt ;-)
I been off this thread for almost 24 hours and you have to pull me back in again? You too on 'the file'? Is there a file or not? One says yes, the other says no. What gives?
Look, those chants to the dolls of us are really prayers for us. OWWW
I am up to chapter 12 of Laura's book myself : “ Chapter 12: It's not a child, it's a choice. How to move on with your life after getting the news. “ bringing on another crying spell....so moving ...got to go...keyboard getting wet
Life is GOOD. My conscience is, as it has always been, CLEAR.
The others have to deal with their own issues as they see fit.
btw, I was more interested in baseball, conservative politics, and beating up weak boys, as a child. Never got into those 'girlie' things. (I'm serious. You can take that for what it's worth. ;*)
Oh......and as a result of my childhood, I can pitch MUCH better than Obama can. :)
I agree.
;-) I hope you’re recycling that water...
This information doesn’t surprise me. She hasn’t been forthcoming with her opinions on subjects that disagreed with her husband’s positions as POTUS for eight years; but, she wasn’t dishonest.
I disagree very much with Laura Bush’s views. I wouldn’t be surprised if her daughters share them. To her credit, she showed respect for her husband and for the presidency by fulfilling her role as First Lady without making an issue of the fact that her views differed with his political stance.
I’m thankful every day that this nation had GWB, and Laura, for eight years instead of Al Gore, and Tipper. I just pray that we can survive Barry and Michelle, and rectify some of the damage done on Capitol Hill.
You have to read Laura's book, here's a few samples :
Chapter 8 : Compassionate conservatism, because conservatives are not compassionate like me
Chapter 9 : Same-sex marriage, because we need more love in the world.
Chapter 10 : No Child Left Behind , Why the teacher's union loves your child more than you.
Chapter 11 A wise Latino on the court can best decide what's fair for you.
Chapter 12: It's not a child, it's a choice. How to move on with your life after getting the 'good' news.

LMAO!!!!
Only when justified ;-)
Chilling but true ... :^(
“I live in the United States therefore I have the right to believe what I wish, just as you do. When that ends, youve embraced fascism and I want nothing to do with you.”
Not sure what you’re referring to, but it seems that you are conflating freedoms with rights.
We in the US have decided that people should have the freedom to believe what they wish, and God gives us all the same freedom.
Rights, however, come from God, and while we have the freedom to be wrong, we have no right to be wrong.
From Gallup, this week.
Looks like we're both "WRONG!" as you put it. Its a statistical tie.
Pretty much. But when the question is more specific, women are more likely to favor major restrictions on abortion; Men *are* more likely to want it absolutely banned, but far more likely to want no restriction on abortion whatsoever.
The big money behind the abortion movement has always been the porn industry, FWIW; I almost wonder if part of the political weakening of the pro-abortion propaganda is because porn is moving away from the major players (Hefner, Flynt, etc.) and into the internet get-rich-quick types.
