Laura Bush Supports Gay Marriage, Abortion

Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.

After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.

Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.

In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."

Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

You might be right, but it sure isn’t helping her with a lot of people who thought more highly of her prior to her statements. even if she gains some liberal buyers, she’s taking away a lot of book buyers by saying this stuff.

I don't want to feud with stephen. The whole thing is ridiculous. We're supposed to be on the same side.

But I have a very hard time being repeatedly cursed and called a liar without responding.

It's a besetting sin. I hate being falsely accused. I need to let more of these vile accusations go by.

But I do hate being cursed, and I don't think stephen ever reads my (rare) freepmails. He pretty much hates me, as you can readily see.

I'm going to take a chance here and confess to you, DO, that I am going to try my best never to say to you, "Conversation over" or "I'm leaving".....because I'm sure that you will come back with a distortion or confused post that I will want to respond to. Okay.  If that's how you see it.  I don't believe I've come back with a distortion or a confused post, but what the hey.

You always do.  Well, you see, there you go.  You're entitled to that position, but I disagree with you.  That large post I made several posts back was provided so you could see your comments close together, with the hopes you would be able to see at least part of what I do.  There was no distortion.  There was no confusion.  I took the time to be wordy and explain where I was coming from.  While you may see that as a "pain in the neck" type of thing to do, I went to those lengths to explain how I saw your conflicted actions.  How better to do that than post exactly what I was talking about.

You and a handful of others insist on making outrageous comments (as you have done here), and I sometimes don't have the discipline to let them go as I should. Why is it outrageous to explain what your actions look like to me?  Surely you can see some glimmer of truth in what I posted to you.  Can't you?  Seriously?

I know myself very well, being a stable and emotionally together person as I am, and I am beginning to understand you pretty well too, based on your posts, and the rather odd things that you do with your time and energy. What do my posts here to you have to do with "odd things that I do with my time and energy?"  I am posting here addressing the reality of your comments, as I see them.  Is that odd?  Is there something wrong with spending time on this forum discussing issues with others?  Isn't that what you are doing?  Is it odd when you do it?  Is it wrong or strange for you to spend your time and energy on such things?  You know, I don't think I've been unfair to you.  I have stuck with what your actions were.  I have documented why I was compelled to say the things I did.  How else would you want me to address differences of opinion with you?

So what I will TRY to do is never tell you the conversation is over, and then just leave when I've had enough of your pretzel logic and imaginative 'perception.' Pretzel logic?  Imaginative 'perception'?  OhioWFan, I have addressed your actions as I saw them.  I am not the only person who saw them the way I did.  I have not been mean to you.  I have stuck to the issues and tried to explain where I am coming from.  You can either try to understand where I'm coming from or go into denial.  And obviously denial and attack is going to be your MO.

There. Now you may attack me further and call me a liar, or whatever it is you feel like doing this time. I have responded to you explaining in great detail how I saw your comments.  That is not an attack.  It is an open honest response to you.  I have not called you a liar, but it is obvious you think that I have.  I have merely explained why I don't believe you fully understand what your actions and comments look like to others.

And I will only respond if you say something that isn't true. How's that sound? I don't think you want to hear how it sounds.  Based on that criterea, it baffles me why you responding to me.  I haven't said anything that isn't true.

LOL, Laura doesn’t need my prayers. I don’t see the woman as demon possessed you know. She sees this issue differently than I do and I think that’s terrible because little humans in the womb are defenseless. I would like her to wise up on the subject, but I am not going to drop to my knees and plea for it non-stop. Laura herself is the person who should be praying over it.

When you say ‘ourselves’ you are speaking of Republicans as a party? I am not sure how you and I are compromised. I have no current heroes so there is little to compromise me. I just post my opinions, if I can. I tend to disagree with everyone about something. Even you three meanies!

I meant us, as in the country overall, but in a narrower sense, those who believed that the GOP top echelon is really as “conservative” as they like to portray.

Any illusions I had were wiped clean when I was called a “racist” by Pres. Bush because I wanted a border fence built (as Congressionally-mandated) and the border enforced (as Constitutionally-mandated). So this latest “expose” comes as no surprise to me.

That’s just normal and natural; I do too. Typically though your posts are enlightening, blunt, and straight to the point, which is agood thing. You’ve got a better grasp of the political machinations than I do.

Basically, I just think they all suck anymore, with some few exceptions.
