Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.
Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.
In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."
Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

I think if you review that post you responded to #29 I never said (on this thread) that “I would never read her book”. I was asking another freeper if he read it, I put one question on that reply with a question mark.
Post a copy of the book, I will read it. Hopefully it wont get me in tears like some others here:)
“Boycott” may be the wrong word. He sent a representative that no one had ever heard of to the funeral.
Innocuous questions don't offend, but rude comments do:
I only 'dismiss' [your comments] because they aren't valid, IMO.
Youre a liar. Laura Bush is neither pro-abortion or pro gay marriage. And youre the rude and let me add, dishonest one.
Man, you people are rough.
OPPPs, I think I this is the wrong thread. I meant to post this on the “Pray for President Bush” thread. Sorry to bother you. My mistake!
Would you like me to conjoin your comments with someone else for a joint accusation?
Deb is entitled to her opinion, you are entitled to yours, and I am entitled to mine.
I was civil, and I don't think the point you made is valid. What you could have done is to defend your position, but you chose not to.
If you can't handle healthy disagreement, then so be it. I won't bug you, but I also won't buckle to some bizarre demand that I not post my opinions to you.
Laura Bush does not promote, work on committees for, sell t-shirts advocating or stop people on the street to sing the praises of either abortion or gay marriage. She has never done a single thing to advance either cause.
The facts are, George Bush supported, praised and signed the Defense of Marriage act. His first act as president was to repeal Clinton's exec. order permitting abortions on military bases and the federal funding of abortions abroad. His first veto was to stop embryonic stem cell experiments and he was the most Pro Life president in our history.
So maybe if he hadn't been married to Laura he would have taken out Dr. Tiller himself. You moron.
Somehow, I'm getting the impression that fair debate is not of interest to you.
Actually most threads have the potential to turn into “Prey for President Bush” threads.
You may direct your whining to me. I’m the “rude” one. And if its too “rough” for you, there are many ballet discussion and knitting sites on the web where people won’t call you what you are.
Not wise, at all, sick one.
You sure don’t know much, Theodore. That is one of the most ignorant statements about Laura that I have ever read.
What does this mean in English?
Some of the readers of Laura's book posting here should ask her not to say embarrassing stuff like this on Larry King live anymore, they can tell her next time they show up at a Laura book signing. They could ask her to read the comments on this thread and see what headaches she is causing them.
Where did I say she did? And where did I say all the other things you are accusing me of saying or thinking? I wasn't talking about President Bush at all, and now you're dragging him into it. But you two seem to enjoy all the rude name calling, so knock yourselves out.
You are the rudest posters I have ever encountered. And, yes, you must be living in an alternate universe if you can't see that.
My tagline states a newly-discovered fact, nothing more.
You two act as if I made up the original article posted on abc news. If you've got a gripe about the article's veracity, take it up with them.
Could you please post comments intended for me to me, or delineate in some way?
Nothing you've posted here makes a lick of sense, so unless you start by being rational, we have no where to go with this.
Besides, what's with demanding that I not post to you and then attacking me like a pitbull?
I've tried to be civil with you all along, pointy, but you're really making it difficult.
I don't recommend your reading Laura's book. She's intelligent, literate, and writes way beyond your 4th grade reading level. :)
(To be forewarned is to be forearmed......)
Yes, you really are in an alternate universe. Pitbull? I guess I’m not allowed to defend myself, then. Attack attack attack, and I’m not allowed to respond in any way, without being called names again. Pitbull. Pssh!
Hey, we’re eating our own. Woo hoo!
