Former first lady Laura Bush has broken with her husband on the premier social issues of his administration and said she backs gay marriage and abortion.
After more than eight years of silence on the controversial issues, Mrs. Bush said in an interview with CNN's Larry KingTuesday, that gay marriage and abortion were points of contention with her husband, former President George W. Bush.
Mrs. Bush in recent weeks has been promoting her memoir "Spoken from the Heart," in which she writes about her life both before and after becoming first lady.
In response to a question about gay marriage, she said, "There are a lot of people who have trouble coming to terms with that because they see marriage as traditionally between a man and a woman. But I also know that, you know, when couples are committed to each other and love each other, that they ought to have, I think, the same sort of rights that everyone has."
Mrs. Bush said she and the ex-president "disagree" on legalizing same-sex marriage.

No one should be really surprised at this article. She has hinted before on numerous occasions that she is more liberal than her husband on social issues. Actually, the wives of the last 3 Republican presidents (Reagan, Bush Sr., Bush) took contrary views from their husbands when it came to social issues such as abortion and gay rights. This isn’t news...
LOL, I cant figure out if you just told me you agree with me or not. but I cant disagree with the points in your last comment:)
I understand. I wish you had read it first. It’s a marvelous, insightful book.
NFHale, that pretty much expresses my view of it. I do feel compelled to object, but I’m not here to turn this into a LB hate fest.
I’m not being asked to evaluate her for office. She’s a private citizen. I couldn’t disagree with her more on this issue.
Human beings should not be killed, at any stage of their life.
(Of course that doesn’t address adults who have committed a capital crime)
It doesn't "expand" any definition of anything, let alone the entire Republican party.
>>> That doesn’t say anything.
Neither did he when the left was lying about his record.
That would have been a good start.
Even if a vote never comes up on any pro-life issue ever again, it at least shows the morality and integrity of a person.
I’m thinking it guarantees her a spot on Oprah’s show.
“...Human beings should not be killed, at any stage of their life. (Of course that doesnt address adults who have committed a capital crime)...”
It takes real mental gymnastics, and maybe even a touch of insanity, for libs to be able to justify murdering an infant on one hand as a “woman’s choice” and be OK with it, and then without blinking an eye, turn around and bemoan and wail for the life of a convicted murderer about to be executed.
Proving once again Michael Savage’s point that liberalism is truly a mental disorder...
As for LB - I’ll pray for her soul, as I pray for my own.
“Even if a vote never comes up on any pro-life issue ever again, it at least shows the morality and integrity of a person. “
Amen!
I have no love loss for any politicians and their wives, don’t care for most of them. We the people never really know who we are voting for except for Obama there was just too much radicals friends but when it all comes down to it, it’s all about them and not so much about us. Call me cynical I can accept that! Bush had 8 years to do something about the border especially after 911, that has always been a sticking point for me.
Unlike her husband with No Child Left behind, or TARP, or amnesty, or.. you get the idea. I bet she was ga-ga over No Child...
I find it remarkable that I took it on faith that GWB’s pro-life belief was going to influence the rest of his character so profoundly that it alone would be enough to make him the right man to be POTUS. Now notice that, although abortion is mentioned when there is a SCOTUS vacancy, the big issues for the GOP are the budget, crap and trade, amnesty, obamacare, etc. In fact, in a way, Obama used Stupak’s commitment to the pro-life cause to get his vote for obamacare.
Another strange irony (at least a double irony) is that the amnesty of 10s of millions of illegals who are mostly pro-life would make it almost impossible to do anything for the unborn, and that pro-life GWB fought so hard to pass amnesty.
As a matter of fact, the only comment on abortion came as a critique of Katie Couric and the media trap. Larry King pressed her on the issue in his interview, and she didn't lie.
It's not as if, as some are implying, or stating outright, she deceitfully waited until her husband was out of office to preach pro-abortion views.
(Some of the comments on this thread are ludicrous).
I'm sorry that anyone would decide not to buy this wonderful book because of this. I think it's a mistake, because it is loaded with so much information and detail about what went on for 8 years in the protection of this great nation. It gives detail about the greatness of the American people. It gives insight into the character of those who led us for eight years.
It is a GOOD read, and well worth it for anyone. I hope it remains on the best seller lists for a long time, and that those who don't want to buy it, borrow it.
In the mean time, let's pray for Laura.........and thanks for the free advice. ;)
Did any of you ever wonder about her that she would consider herself a Christian and believe homosexual marriage and abortion was ok? Truth be said we the people can’t trust anyone? Just because someone calls themselves a Christian or a conservative in politics meanings nothing. woe to those that call evil good and good evil.
amen
She was already interviewed by Oprah, and the subject never came up. It was really a good interview, considering it was Oprah......
Boycott her stupid book. Why subsidize moral corruption? Get lost Laura.
I agree why?
“I bet she was ga-ga over No Child... “
If not the instigator of it.
