Is The Mainstream Media Prepared To Discuss The Kagan Lesbian Rumors?
Mediaite.com ^ | Michael Triplett

With the White House announcement that Elena Kagan has been nominated to the Supreme Court, it won’t be long until the chattering classes again begin to discuss her (lack of a) personal life and the lesbian rumors. Perhaps more importantly, why should it matter whether Kagan is a lesbian or not?

It was less than a month ago that the White House went ballistic over a conservative blogger at CBS passing along the story–allegedly picked up from gay and progressive blogs–that Kagan was a lesbian. The blog was pulled, the White House defended Kagan’s heterosexuality, and the rumor appeared to be quelled . . . until now.

I hope one of the Senators asked her whether she is a lesbian.

Something strange is afoot. You’d the think our homo-loving media would be estatic about a homo being nominated - such progressivism!

This isn't the best avenue, true or not, to approach the Kagan nomination.

If it was a Republican, they would discuss it. Otherwise, no.

Let discuss if she’s a constitutionalist or not. Do you suppose the press is ready to discuss that?

She hates the military. She hates the cross. She hates free speech. Something tells me she doesn’t think much of the constitution either or the Big O would never have nominated her.

The Least Qualified President Ever has just nominated the Least Qualified Justice ever and O’s toadies are falling all over themselves to change the subject.

Did any of you catch the Fox all stars panel yesterday? They all kept saying Kagan would be confirmed, unless of course, something unexpected happened, like what happened to Clarence Thomas. It makes me think they believe something is going to pop up with her personal life.

that's the sort of "rumor" that gets you much more mileage on the social-networking circuit.

Axelrod's an expert at this.

I don’t care if she does it with donkeys. The Dems won. They get to call the tune and have to pay the piper in November.

The real Conservatives need to speak up about constitutional issues and her lack of judicial and litgation experience and recall that the American people elected an experienced 2-year Senator to the Presidency. Why make the same mistake again with a lifetime posting!!!

You cannot legislate morality. Stick to the Constitution.

If this becomes the GOP meme against Kagan’s appointment, then Novemeber will not be as big an event as expected. This isn’t the 50s where Allen Drury had Brigham Andersen commit suicide when he was threatened with exposure for a WW2 homosexual encounter in Advise and Consent. Making an issue of this can turn Kagan into a sympathetic victim, and make the GOP seem nasty and desperate. And as several other bloggers have noted,Kagan is as good as one’s going to get from Obama. She will be confirmed and there is enough in her few public pronouncements to justify a GOP senator’s no vote.We need not go in this direction.

I am not a fan of the nutty lefty gay activists who decide to out politicians that don't vote the way they want, and I don't think it is the job of the republican party to out dems as a political strategy.

When it comes to politics, I am a fan of “Don't ask don't tell”.
